I should be amazind at 20,000 plants. But I'm more amazed at 7 kids!Awesome!

Not all ours.. we have had six two of whom have passed away one from cancer and one from suicide. We also raised my wife's niece and nephew for a few years and then my two nephews and niece for a few years after that. We are now down to four teenagers ages 14 to 19 left at home, though the three oldest are gone most of the time working and whatnot, we are generally lucky if we see them once a week or so these days.

I had 5 with me at one time I taught them love, responsibility and fun I did ask allot good grades but they are all upstanding people now with lives of their own it is one of the best achievements in my life

You have carried more than your share of pain in raising those children; my deepest condolences for your losses. How wonderful, too, to take in the others. I think raising kids in farm life has some great advantages; mine was raised in the suburbs but is very excited that her daughter will have a Grandma to visit in Vermont, with chickens!

Thanks, @penny1960 - Fortunately for everyone with a slow connection, I didn't upload the other thousand pictures I have of my flower gardens!

In my old house I had three gardens: a blue and white one, a large garden accompanying the walk up from the driveway, and a garden that filled the hole left when a five-bay garage was torn down. That one was mostly flowers, but had hidden vegetables: cherry tomatoes, kale, peppers, green beans, blueberries . . . I did have to compete with the rabbits for produce.

Things are growing.

Here are the purple marconi peppers. They are green, turn purple, then turn red. What a deep purple!

Melons!! I planted 3 types of musk melon, and here are some of the developing babies!

Butternut squash!

Soybeans! Am impressed at how many soybeans are on this one plant!

I let 3 girls out while I gardened - here are two of them bug hunting at the edge of the farmer's field. One of them found a huge, juicy grub and gobbled it up very happily, then was ready to go back into the run area.

Good morning gardeners. Last day of the recent heat wave. Yesterday was terribly hot but did cool down enough to turn AC off and open the windows at bedtime. Today is supposed to be well over 90F, but a good chance of thunderstorms. I did manage to get the weed whacking done in the front yard but I'm waiting until the heat wave is over before I mow. So apparently my Roma tomatoes have blight. I have a fungicide I could use or should I wait and see if I can get the copper spray? I was excited to see not one, but two baby butternut squash plants developing this morning. I thinned the carrots out a bit more and they are starting to develop too. Since it's been so hot I've been leaving the coop doors open at night and at least 4 of the hens are sleeping in the run where it is cooler. It makes less work for me because they aren't pooping inside the coop. The girls seem to be getting along better all of a sudden. That is nice. I loved the pictures @trumpeting_angel and @Acre4Me. Yes, @Wee Farmer Sarah , the heat is terrible already. Yesterday it cooled down outside by supper and we were able to sit in dappled shade very comfortably. Your butternuts are so cute!

My pumpkins and butternuts are growing at the top of the hill, in an area of tall grass. I don’t go up there much. I didn’t have any place for them in the garden, so they are taking their chances with benign neglect.
