What did you do in the garden today?

Good morning gardeners! Happy Valentines day!!!
Awesome looking waffles @Acre4Me !! Bravo!
Was "French toast Friday" for my DH topped with a nice glass of fresh squeezed OJ. Nice!

I'm still harvesting oranges, avocados and papaya. Still plenty more still on the trees. My new juicer came in the mail yesterday so I am sure we will be plucking the orange tree much faster now.

L O V E my chicken proof boxes!!! I have been able to share my extra arugula with my future DIL and inspired her to start her garden. Time to thin the lettuce into my salads and sow another box w/ seeds- sticking with what works...

I jealous of this entire post. I want tropical fruit trees in my yard, warm weather, and things actually growing in the garden (other than inches of snow).
Everything is looking great!

Come (spring and) summer you will love being in Plainfield IL. I will be hot and miserable here, so will my sweet chickens and so will my lovely garden. Please be sure to post photos for me then. I'll be desperate for them I am sure.
How is your compost experiment going? And have you decided on soil for your seedlings?

I’ll trade for your inches of snow for my inches of ice. :lau It was 16F when I tucked the chickens in for the night. Temps are heading to 0F or minus F in the morning.

I plant allot of Arugula love it in salads that and spinach
Are spinach is starting to grow nice around here, DW planted some lentil sprouts today, and yesterday we picked up some tomato starts and a passion flower for my silkies run(fruit and butterfly cats). The potatoes are going in soon and brussel sprouts are starting to fruit out. Hopefully this Dill grows out nice too.

I try to find deals on seeds as well. Years ago I spent nearly $10 on a packet of beet seeds directly from Burpees, they never germinated. Other seeds I purchased directly from them were disappointing. I’m trying to stay away from hybrids so I can start saving them myself. I’ve had pretty good luck with discounted seeds.
Same for us here we just set our Mexican sourced cantelope seeds on to the drying rack to sit for a week before we get them into soil. I do like the heritage/non GMO/hybrid seeds the best. I had to chicken proof my keylimes they were eating them.

Same temps here pretty much. I have ice on my back patio and snow onto off the ice. There lawn is not too icy though because the sun reaches over the house enough. Today was bizzare: full sun but single digits with negative windchill.
