What did you do in the garden today?

Good morning all. Didn't get the garden bed frame done yesterday. I forgot to charge my drill battery. I'm so bad about that. I'm getting my taxes done today and hope to get the frame done later. Will make one last trip to the grocery store today so I'll be okay to stay away from sick people. Oh, I do have to vote today as well. I heard about the tornadoes that hit Nashville last night, OMG! I feel bad for those affected. I haven't killed my baby leeks yet and will be planting more seeds soon. There's a couple of more things that need more time before planting outdoors so I'll be planting those up this week as well. My chickens are loving this warm weather. My BR girls didn't want to go to bed last night. They were roosting in the run after sunset. I had to put them in the coop. I think the groundhog got it right this year, these warmer temps are really nice and much easier on the heating bills. Have a great day everyone.

Yes i think the ground hog is correct as well. Our house has a electric heat pump so we are all electric and honestly compared to our previous 2 bedroom apartment which was all electric and the electric was billed through the complex and not independently through the electric company, our bills have been awesome for a 2 story home. Even with christmas lights out and the christmas tree etc, it hasn't been too bad. That being said I'll still enjoy the savings with a nice spring. I enjoy just having fresh air flowing to kinda cleanse the stale air from winter. Plus it is also nice to have the humidity back (at manageable levels) so your skin isn't all cracking and itchy! Going up to 63 here today with some rain later in the afternoon.

I need to start done olf my seeds this week too. I think I will make it a weekend priority.
As for avoiding sick people, I have to fly again for a business trip next week. I think I am going to get a mask and keychain hand sanitizer this time. I live near Chicago, where there's been some activity already with Corona virus. I'm really not interested in catching it.

I'll be flying March 25 and back home on the 27 from Philly to Orlando and back for John Deere training. I'm not worried but with how busy both of those hubs are, this adds a bit of unrest to the situation.
Philly is where I am flying to from Chicago. I have to spend 4 days in NJ and it's easier to fly into Philly and drive than dealing with non-direct flights to Newark.

Granted, I have only flown to a handful of places. Each time I have left from Philadelphia. Been to Atlanta, west palm beach Orlando and Raleigh Durham NC. I usually drive if I can but for work trips, flying is normally how it happens. Philly is a pretty good airport I'd say. Lots of food choices and it seems to be decently clean unlike some parts of the city.

Another batch of seeds arrived! We will try tomatillos this year. More peppers!

I put out deer strips in the orchard today. I beat them to the smaller branches this year for a change.

Besides that 5 hours of starching and ironing linens. Bleh.
Still trying to NOT do something stupid to my back, to include sneezing. Good grief, I'm queen of the kleenex box today to boot.

Tomatillos are a plant I would le to have but I had a bad past experience. When we lived in the city at our previous house or neighbor had tomatillos and their garden located right along or shared fence was infested with rats who happily feed on the tomatillos. They would of course venture into our yard then as well and try to get into our garden. I regularly trapped rats right at the property line. Eventually the city came out and forced them to take action, but for two years it was a rat buffet.

Now the tomatillos are likely no more tempting than tomatoes or berries and I am certain it was the owners lack odd garden maintenance that led to the escalated problems, but I have not been able to get over the association of rats with tomatillos.
