What did you do in the garden today?

@Nelson-Collier what did you do to make a fish tank green house? That sounds interesting and doable!

My Mom just got out of the hospital this ev:lauening. She is so weak that she can't stand by herself. She also can't get her feet or legs to do what she wants them to. 😞
They moved her by ambulance to a skilled nursing facility that is on the same campus as her assisted living apartment. She has a long hard journey a head of her.
I don't remember what my last update was, so forgive me if I repeat myself.
She ended up having a blood infection that started with an infection in the knee that she had surgery on. The infection attacked her quadricep which ended up ripping, tearing and pulling away from the bone. She also ruptured her knee capsule when she fell. They surgically cleaned out the infection in her knee and packed her knee with antibiotic pellets ( they will last 3 months). She has been on IV antibiotics and went to the skilled nursing center with a pic line. She has to continue the IV antibiotics for 6 weeks! I think I told you that the infection had NOT gotten to her heart values.
She has to wear a leg immobilizer for 6 weeks ( no bending her leg). This is to let the quadricep time to fully heal ( and the knee capsule too, I think). She has become so weak that this is her greatest opponent I think.
Hopefully she will be able to make progress and regain the ability to walk, take care of her own toileting needs and be able to transfer from walker ( or wheelchair) to bed or chair or couch. These are all the things she has to be able to do to be able to return to her assisted living apartment.

The weekend weather was really nice but today ( and I think the rest of the week) was rainy and cool ( but not cold!).
My personalized planting reminder told me that I can start ( for the next 2 weeks) lettuce, onions, peas, pepper, tomatoes, cabbage, broccoli and asparagus in doors now, but nothing outdoors yet.
But I haven't had time to start anything. Heck, I haven't even brought the seed starting soil in from the trunk of the car!
:lau
Thanks for the update Karen. Great news that the infection was caught before it reached her heart. I'm hoping for a good recovery!

Welcome to gardeners thread it is a fast moving group many from all over the US
I appreciate the welcome! We are set at an elevation of 4,226 feet/1,228 so my cold stuff does fairly well during the cold. I still have to sit on a lot of stuff, though. I get, for example, several different variations of sun flower from my mom; cannot even do that
'till june unless I want to attempt indoor. Anyways...thank you. I will keep up with y'all <3

I'm in zone 6b, so it's actually planting time for all my cabbage, lettuce, potatoes, beets, etc. All the cold weather crops anyway. Built the potato and strawberry towers today, an experiment this year. Hopefully they'll do well, cuz it sure frees up a lot of land for other food. Ground is tilled, fertilized and ready to plant this Thursday and Friday if the weather holds. Another whole month to go before the tomatoes, peppers and all can go in, but am sure I'll appreciate the break after the mad rush of planting this week! Hope we all have fabulous gardens this year!

Morning . Good news on the knees . Uric acid test came back normal so it is not gout . Ortho doctor took X-rays yesterday said it is arthritis , fluid and inflammation . Got steroid shot in each knee . Doctor said it could take a few days to improve . Relief was almost immediate . Feel s normal this morning but still a little puffy on the left knee . :celebrate Planted the new roots yesterday but the Goldstrum package was dead so I returned it .

Hey There used to be a pizza place on the SW side of town. My brain says it was out by Fruit of the Loom. It still there?

MUST get the peonies in the soil today.

Time change is making it impossible for me to sleep. I cannot go to bed early, and that's what this is. So I lay awake until 2 or 3 and then the alarm goes off at 6. This morning I was up at 5 with DHs alarm. The moon blazing away isn't helping either. So I got up, noticed he left the grill on all night. :barnie Well at least it will be charred clean. We have zero visibility freezing fog. I can't even seen the windmill this morning.

I ate breakfast, and was just about ready to sink into sleep, when the great horned owl started hooting away above my bed. Country problems, right?!

The moon is, obviously, above the fog, but being full is reflecting so much light, it's as if your're in a really bright room, filled with milk. Ya. Like you're IN the milk jug and someone just opened the refrigerator door.

SOOOOO sleepy.
Spending the day making garden aprons, and then heading out to teach a class.

Will put sausage tortellini soup in crock for DH.

Still no word if they are going to switch the university to digital and send the kids home or have them stay there and go digital. If they come home to I get reimbursed for room and board? Hmmmmmm....... 130 people here in self-quarantine out of an abundance of caution.

Oh well. Just another challenge from mother nature. Onwards.....

Have a great day all.

Good morning gardeners. I was able to clean and prep two of my garden beds yesterday. I had planned to do some cleaning up in the front yard in the afternoon but those March winds kicked up a bit too much. Will try again on Thursday morning. So they have declared a state of emergency over the coronavirus here in Massachusetts. Most of the colleges are switching to online classes only and public schools are shutting down for a day or two for cleaning. I postponed my jury duty for six months. Hopefully everything will be back to normal by then. I'm still going to the Senior Center today for my usual Wednesday activities. Will see how that goes. This afternoon I'll be working on getting some more seeds started. My leek seedlings appear to be over the "transplant shock" so they should be growing well soon. The tiny Bay Laurel shrub I bought is actually sending a new leaf up, so that's encouraging. It's really nice to have more gardeners join the thread, welcome all. I'll be watching the weather closely to determine when it's a good time to bring my fig tree out of the garage. I may do it this weekend when they are predicting rain showers. I can always wheel it back into the garage if it gets too cold. Have a great day everyone.
