What did you do in the garden today?

Sorry about your cousin. This thing is getting real .
I've got 1 chick in the house and 3.6 roos in the yard and it is driving me a little nuts. Good luck with the webinar on top of the feathered fam. Hope all works out for you all. Stay well.
Thank you so much! Yah, this stuff is getting nuts. I live in a rural area (less than 1500) and I'm still spooked.

The roos and my guinea fowl start going bonkers around 5...chicks are slumberpartying all night like it ain't no thing but a chicken wing! Needless to say...we keep a lot of spirits on hand between the noise and cold :jumpygod bless wine!

I got my snow pea trellis moved last week at the insistence of my 3 year old grandson. Today I got the soaker hose laid and the trench opened for the seeds. First real garden project I’ve been able to do since I slipped on a rotten fig last fall and did something to my knee. It’s pathetically small but huge for me right now.

Sorry about your knee. No fun at all getting hurt. Maybe try some of those painkilling spirits @pasdechat73 was talking about. ;)

We have 2 kids who work in the S.F. Ca health industry w/ our 2 beautiful grand kids...
My DIL says they are fine but I can feel the stress in her words. She is worried... I don't blame her. I'm glad they are young and healthy but this is a stressful time.
Rachel Maddow did a graft on Italy's Covid19 outbreak. Very interesting, very sad and scary..

Good morning gardeners. Hope all of you are well and keeping your wits about you during this Covid19 thing. Scary stuff, but we'll get through it. I'm hoping the stores will have restocked a bit by the end of next week. I like to keep an extra month of paper products on hand. Yesterday I put a little fence around my tiny daffodils in the backyard so the chickens wouldn't snack on them. I raked up around my large azalea and cleaned that up. I noticed that the honeysuckle shrub next to the chicken coop is developing buds. Oh well. Then I planted 3 types of tomato seeds, my cucumbers, bell peppers, jalapenos and summer squash. I'm thinking about designating one of my garden beds as an early cold crop bed. I can put the hoops and plastic up and start lettuce and radishes early. Although I have plenty of food stored up I know I'll be craving something fresh before too long and who knows what the grocery stores will have next month (and who has touched them???). Attendance was down a bit more at the Senior Center yesterday. Half of my exercise class was missing. They're having a special St. Patrick's Day lunch today so I'll see if that is well attended. It's supposed to rain later today so I plan on getting some bone meal on my hydrangea before that happens. Have a great day everyone.

Overcast, but relatively warm (60F) today.

compost bin is getting built. It will be a 12’x4’ base with 3 bins that are 4’x4’. So, we can finally pile up a good amount, which will hopefully create a better/warmer pile to decompose faster.

yesterday saw a “compost starter” product. Basically powdered microbes. I didn’t buy it, but was curious. Any one try a product like this?

corona virus: things are getting cancelled here, but a few medical-type fb friends have posted a good reminder as to why the cancellations, etc are good. It is fairly contagious and by slowing down the spread of the virus with cancellations etc, the health systems should not be overwhelmed, and should be able to handle the smaller increase over a potentially longer time frame. As opposed to a huge spike in ill people overwhelming the system. We had a dr appointment a couple of days ago, and were grilled as to our travels/illness, etc (we were new patients), but are currently fine and healthy. Spouse does work in an area that brings them into contact with a lot of people every work day, so that might be our most concerning point of exposure.

We have another dr appointment today, so will surely get grilled again!

When I first got my tumbler I used a package of compost starter. It seemed to do OK, but that was almost 3 years ago and the first time I had used a compost tumbler.

Good morning gardeners. The rain was steady early yesterday but quit late morning. I pulled some weeds around the trees in front in the afternoon. More rain today so I'll get the rest of my grocery shopping done and skip outside activities. We weren't able to buy toilet paper for more than a couple weeks. The guy stocking paper products yesterday said it all disappeared as soon as it hit the shelves the night before. We found it elsewhere but laundry soap, disinfectants and antibacterial soap were pretty much gone too. Have a great day and stay healthy everyone!
