What did you do in the garden today?

That’s good!! I’m glad he’s going to a good home at least!! Seems like it probably is for the best. Some dogs just have super intense prey drives haha assuming he’s one of those ones where training doesn’t really work? I bet he will love all the attention haha
Thanks. I know it seems drastic but it has been a long time coming. Biscuit killed a few of my chicks a few years ago, we of course blamed both dogs lol, locked everyone one up tight and worked on training. They are both good boys and super good listeners, so it was easy to get things on track or so i thought... being we are all constantly around my chickens and wild chickens all day long, there is lots of opportunity. Well, 6 months back I found a few dead wild chicks and caught Biscuit red handed. I scolded him and worked on him specifically. In the past he took advantage of a single chick distracted. This time we were right there. Now granted, I always lock the dogs in the other yard when my chickens are out grazing, DH was mowing the lawn 10 feet or less away from the start of the incident. All chickens were together picking up after the mower. This is seriously regressive behavior on Biscuits part. Shocking really. I think, I think, I think... I am sad and tired :( and Biscuit will kill another one of my babies given 1/2 an opportunity.
I really appreciate you helping, playing the devils advocate, common sense and all. I'm afraid that this incident was just too much for me. It has certainly pushed me over the edge at the moment lol. Sleep will feel good tonight. Nigh all :frow:love

My "winter ducks". In the winter i found some eggs, it was a frost but i tried to put them into incubator. Well, now i have +3 ducks.

That’s totally understandable then!! Seems like it’s definitely been a long time coming and it’s not fair to either of you to hate him, etc. which I’m sure you would if he stayed and I’m sure he’d kill more chicks so probably best to rehome him like you said. And it seems like you’ve thought about it and are giving him to the best possible home so I’m sure it’s for the best. I actually think it’s smart you’re considering that instead of just keeping a dog you don’t like out of some feeling you “have to” or something. :love

Baby ducks are awesome! I might decide to incubate duck eggs one of these days. Our ducks are grown and laying. I'm thinking about hatching and growing for meat.

Good morning gardeners. The rain stopped for now. Thank goodness. No rain today or tomorrow, back again on Thursday. Everything is so soggy right now. I just found out my favorite discount store has senior hours. I may hop on over there this morning to pick up some more gardening gear. I still need to set up my brooder and have it ready for tomorrow. With the temps finally warming up to normal I will be really busy these next several days. I need to spray my apple trees as well. It looks like their buds are setting. I ordered string for my weed whacker online yesterday. Walmart doesn't seem to carry it anymore. I will be planting my nasturtium "seedlings" outside either today or tomorrow since I need the table I'm using for my little plants for my chick brooder. I still need to figure out where to plant my black-eyed susans, front or backyard??? I do need to re-start my tarragon. The little seedlings dried up. But most all the other seedlings are doing well. So sorry about your poor hen @TropicalBabies. I'm glad you have an alternative to re-home the dog rather than put it down. Dogs are like perpetual 2 year olds, very impulsive and not always predictable. Well I need to get going on my to-do list for the day. Have a great day everyone.

Forgot to add that I butchered our extra rooster today and then moved the 6 meat chicks to his pen from the brooder, then moved the 4 chicks from the incubator to that brooder to join the 1 chick that hatched about 3 or 4 weeks ago. She had been hanging out with the meat chicks.
Tomorrow we drive out to Cackle Hatchery to pick up 15 more meat chicks!
I'm picking up the puppies on Saturday after work. That way they will be 7 weeks old. Still a little early to be leaving Mom in my opinion, but better than leaving her at 6 weeks!
I still need to put up the chain link fence around the cattle panels and finish puppy proofing the house! Also need to finish making list of supplies that we need to buy to accommodate 2 puppies! (Leashes, bowls, another kennel/carrying case, chew toys, puppy chow) Can you think of anything else? They have collars that I expect they will leave on. I will schedule their vet appointment after we get them home. Will be calling the Humane Society to see about scheduling a low cost spay appointment.

Are you going to chip your puppies Karen?
I'm so defeated... I wrote the last, fairly quick post to you folks while DH was mowing right next to house. Before hitting send my fricking dog went for my little sweet Stormy and killed her right under our noses not 10 feet away from us both. I am beyond sad/mad, I am devastated. This one went straight to the heart as Stormy was my little buddy. We went for car rides together she was so cool and weird, I love that bird... not so much the dog anymore... I'm surprised I did not kill him on the spot i was so mad... There were 11 other chicks right there with her but he singled her out. Well, he did it this time... HE is getting re-homed. Beats being dead. Bye, bye fricken dog. He meets his potential new person tomorrow morning.

Good morning gardeners. I'm sitting with the flock as they have their morning scratch, damn pigeons will come in and eat everything if I don't. I walked around the garden this morning and found a squash ready to harvest, more tiny green leaves on the hibiscus and the artichokes are looking rough. I'll harvest them today and then trim back a few leaves to give other stuff more sun. We're under a heat warning this week and breaking records, I'm not a fan. Have a great day all!
