What did you do in the garden today?

Good morning gardeners. Knock on wood, but I think the windstorm is finally over. Around 7 pm last night the wind just stopped. A little weird at first. The temps only dipped to around 37F overnight. Not horrible. The last (I hope) frost should be Wednesday morning. So that looks like planting day. Today's forecast is for near 60F and thunderstorms. I think I'll push the weed whacking out another day and make a trip to TSC today. When I checked yesterday my potatoes seemed to be doing ok and the tiny leek starts are hanging in there. The peas are doing well as are the radishes and endive. I may try to get some fertilizer down in the garden beds today so whatever rain we get mixes it up a bit before I plant. I checked my dahlia tubers yesterday and they seem to be fine. They have plumped up nicely so I'm hoping they will grow nicely this year. Love the fishy hot tub @NewBoots. You are putting fish in there right? Decorative or table fish? Have a great day everyone.

Good morning gardeners :) I can't get over the crazy weather you guys are having! We had a thunderstorm yesterday and got some light rain. This morning it smells like damp desert outside. We're getting some cooler temps this week, mid 90s with overnight lows in the upper 60s to low 70s. I got my seeds in the mail Saturday and added a few I purchased at the store. I also found seeds to start fairy dusters for the xeriscape area around the mesquite tree in the backyard. The dogs demolished my temporary barrier around the bushes that are out there so back to cages for now. I'm going to clip a few pieces of the Mexican bird of paradise out front and see if I can get those to go. That thing was in the clearance bin at Lowes about 10 years ago and is huge now. The hibiscus is doing great and the grass is filling in the dog yard quite well. My son and his family came to see me yesterday and brought me some jade in a pot, too cute. My DIL has a Cricut so they decorated the pot themselves. Have a great day everyone.

I finally have some potatoes planted. I think I'm actually going to need to buy another bag of seed potatoes if I can find them. I cut the seed potatoes from the two bags I had and planted all but the final two rows (6 rows all together with 11 seed potatoes in each). I'm going to have room for another two or three rows though. Perhaps I should just plant something else in the extra space since I should already have over 60 potato plants - that's a lot of potatoes.

Covered the berry bushes last night, just in case. The winds were howling at 40 mph when I put the buckets out, but would die about 3 am which would allow the temps to plummet. Luckily the lake below us in the valley released some of its stored heat and kept us at 38. So in the buckets came.

I've got another broody, so we'll try again.

The cabbage in the kitchen pot (for fun) died, but now there is a lemon tree coming up, FINALLY.

Rain on and off all week. Strong storms in the middle of the week.

This week is yet another busy gardening week for us. We're heading to 90Fs this week, so that'll be more comfortable than last week's 104F! We already have a number of tomato and okra plants planted (Something like 20 okra plants, and maybe 15 tomato plants, including the ones that live in the greenhouse (versus just starting there)) but there are more that are ready to go out. I have to see if the other pea and green bean plants are tall enough to reach our makeshift trellis.

On top of those, we have a beet that we let flower, several swiss chard plants (that I harvested a few days ago- so many leaves!), basil that got seeded last year from our massive basil plants (they were like, 4 feet in height when they were done growing), rosemary, sage, cauliflower, cucumber (that has started to bloom), zucchini and squash (both of which has also started to bloom.)

I'll post some pictures sometime of the garden and our greenhouse. The husband has been enjoying gardening too. :3 Take care and have a lovely day!
