Afternoon everyone!

@BReeder! I LOVE the duck pond! It's looking so good!

@Wee Farmer Sarah it's funny you say that about your lilac - we took a drive today & I noticed the lilacs were blooming, but I also noticed all the bushes only had a few blooms & all were at the top of the plants. Not that it means anything probably, just an observation I noted because I miss the smell of my lilac bush.

Some little critter, probably a squirrel chewed it's way through my garden fence last night & dug up a bunch of garlics. Just left them there, but still. Rotten little tree rat. So I patched the fence - hopefully it was looking for a nut it hid & won't come back. The cukes are starting to peek through the soil, all the beans sprouted, all the squash did too so that's a good start.

My little that's laying laid in the nest box in the big girl coop today, yay! Mean girl is still locked up, but locked in the coop & small run instead of the crate, I set her up with a dust bath & she was over the moon. I think I'll keep her in there 2 more days so the littles are comfortable before she harasses them again. The littles, all 4 of them, stared incessantly at the other big girl the entire time she was laying, I couldn't stop laughing. But apparently chicken see, chicken do!

New bees have been installed.
Nice couple living a out 5 miles from me. Ukrainian couple bought land two years ago and have been working on it since. He is just now digging out the foundation of the house and he already has the barn up (most people do that first and just live in it until the house is done.)

They have a lovely garden going. I took eggs when I picked up the bees. I'll take some spare squash plants when I return his bee box.

Bread is out of the oven. Donuts are in.
List of chores this week is growing. Maybe I should hide the chalk for the board.

@Sueby, great! Good luck with the new seeds. I'm always sharing seeds with people for some reason. Sorry to hear about your well situation. :/ Can't blame you for buying bottled even when things are wacky the way they are now. Your adventures with Mean Girl are kind of cracking me up... Easy for me to say, I guess! Sorry about the garlic! Darned squirrel!

@igorsMistress those pavers are nice! That path looks very cool. Tres chic! I like the bleached-out wood, too. Not sure if that's intentional or not!

Ugh, a spider bite! @Wee Farmer Sarah Witch hazel is a good idea, though.

@Acre4Me Your garden beds look very good! Great idea with the clover crop. And @Wee Farmer Sarah is probably right—those potatoes may surprise you.

@littledog the others are right. So often gardening life is just like that. Glad your employer is doing so well, though. that's honestly great news to hear! Wonderful to hear your perennials are coming along nicely as well.

Sorry to hear about your sinus migraine, @WthrLady. Those are just no fun.

Got my green bean seedlings and a squash in, squirrels got some of my other seedlings. Such is life. We also put clear tarp over a new garden bed we dug out and filled with gorgeous rich soil (our property was 100% wooded until we purchased it three years ago now); weeds were already coming up after only two weeks. Need to see how long the tarp has to stay on before we can remove it and plant things we like. (Actually, we like some of the 'weeds', but for the overall happiness of the garden and yours truly...tarp death it is.)


More importantly... We ordered our first chicks today! After waiting forever and ever and moving three times, we are finally at the right location and have our coop up and very close to done. WE ORDERED OUR CHICKS TODAY!!!! Yay! I am so excited! Three each Dominique, Black Australorp, and Easter Eggers—I wanted Buckeyes, but my Ohio native Hubby thought the EEs were cute-pretty and he likes the idea of colourful eggs. How could I say no to him?

They're scheduled to arrive in July. We're both pretty excited! Now to buy up all of the chick supplies we need.

Did a few hay runs the last 2 days and now building the brooder for my soon to arrive chicks.
Most exciting. Congratulations @NightingaleJen on your chick order(!!!) I hope you have a lot of fun and happy years with your new flock. Way to stay patient.

Too many posts to mention individuals but good job garden gang, everyone is in forward garden motion. Love the photos when you can

I have mostly been playing with chicks and chickens. Rose has snapped out of her crazy and I am now mother to her brood, one looks and acts exactly like the late and great Stormy. We are fast buddies. Jazz's (now) 5 are as cute as can be and I keep her and them mostly locked up to avoid further accidents especially from the big grumpy hens.

My lettuce is having a hard time starting... must be too hot already . May try starting in pots and then transplanting instead of direct seeding, sometimes that works well. Rest of garden looks awesome except the artichoke I kept down here, that looks eh, kinda sad. Lots of cherry tomato blooms have set, even the volunteers in my decorative pot out front. Must have been seeds from my sweet 100 hybrid, though, the fruit is now oval lol, hope it is sweet.
UH Papaya's finally made a show at over 2 weeks. Glad they are up. Peppers are starting to bloom...


Had time for a ride on the beach this morning and hope to shovel compost this eve. Congratulations to all of the graduates!!! The best of luck in all future endeavors!!!

Pulled up all the sick wax beans, they had almost no roots at all. I'll directly seed the replacements if I can find the seed. Put up a section of fence boards and then some horse panel to keep Crazy Coyote (DP's name for the psycho chihuahua next door) from digging under the fence. We have nine pots of mixed morning glories waiting to be planted along the base of the horse panel. Stormed a good deal today so we didn't get much else done. I did spend some time watching chicken tv.

Or maybe it watched me.

Thanks! The wood is old, probably at least 5 years, from a tree we had removed. I'm using it to separate the path from the xeriscape garden.

Good morning gardeners. I've got most of the garden planted. I'm holding off on the pepper plants until they get a little bigger. As for my potatoes: all ten are now breaking through the soil. I did get the butternut squash and a row of bush beans started. I have a mystery plant, I think it's some sort of squash. I may plant that with the summer squash today and see what it turns into. I need to drag the large container I will be using for the bird house gourd plants over to where the chickens can't reach it. The forecast changed to where we supposed to get a steady rain overnight and half of today. Well, that didn't happen. It looks like we may have had a brief shower, but the pavement was dry when I got up this morning. I'm really excited how well my parsley is doing. I've never had it overwinter before and it is just getting bigger and bigger. The sage has woken up and getting bigger as well. Onto laundry and bread making today. Have a great day everyone.
