Picked a couple of cucumbers and a zucchini, plus 2 more Romas. Something (bug) got into a tomato and it started rotting. I tossed it to the chickens. Also checked on my 2 bee hives today. They seem to be doing alright.

Look at this Butternut!! The green one! The other butternut in pic is farther ahead, of course, but is also a different seed. The big green one is called "Trombone" and says can get to 40 or 50 lbs per squash. Well, if it does I'll be impressed! I'm already impressed with this one. 3 seeds of Trombone germinated, but so far, only this one squash. The pics are just two views of the same squash. Oh, and these pics taken yesterday around lunchtime. It is bigger today! Yay for butternuts!View attachment 2259909View attachment 2259910

Wow! Trombone is a name to remember! Butternut are good cooked like summer squash if you eat them young! And then the plant sets a new squash

OMG my favorite! I chickened out this year and didn't try them here, but I'm planting them next year. Grats, they look gorgeous!

It was a grocery pick up day so other than the watering and critter tending not much got done in the garden. I did put some chopped straw around the stupice seedlings but I just realized I didn't put down any slug bait so I'll need to do that first thing tomorrow. Do you guys mulch your tomatoes? Do you get bug or slug or disease issues?

In the garden today i mostly continued plugging along on the squash vine borer, a leaf node at a time. Along the way I saw 2 praying mantises (mantids?)! One brown and this green one. And this squash is pretty fun. I don't know how I wound up with a turban squash, i guess it's from the kabocha seeds from the store. I think I'll eat it soon, tenderstyle!
Also finally tied up some tomato plants.
Check out my son's rabbit hole! It's already too long to reach the end of. He's going to escape. He started it to get out of the heat. It's fun to watch him.

I did tear out one small cabbage plant gave it to the chickens so others could get more light and whatever else we lay slug and snail bait all over the garden

Picked a few cucumbers and a few yellow squash . Tomatoes are starting to turn , 2 orange now and lots of em going from tomato green to the white green when they start ripening . Beans are doing great . Sunrise was beautiful this morn , especially over the garden .

Good morning gardeners. @TropicalBabies stay safe!

We got outflow from thunderstorms last evening. The wind blew, then the clouds disappeared like Mother Nature took a deep breath, then suddenly we were getting rain as the clouds rolled by. Not a deep soak but the stuff made it to the ground. All I did was break down 4 bales of hay and spread the flakes around the yard. If my migraine goes away I'll go out and break them up later with a rake. Have a good day all

Good morning gardeners. Not much going on in the garden today. I never thought I would say this, but I'm looking forward to the higher temps if for nothing else than drying out the garden a bit. Everything is still soggy. The tomatoes are doing ok with it so far. Some of the baby cukes got too much rain and have stopped growing for now. The butternut squash is blooming like crazy but still haven't seen any squash forming. There are blooms forming on the bird house gourd plant. Not all that pretty. I picked a few green beans and a couple of turnips. They are still very small. I'm thinking pasta primavera for dinner to use up the pile of veggies in the crisper. I did buy a very small pack of grape tomatoes yesterday so that works. I still have some shopping errands to do and sometime in the very near future I need to do my annual basement and garage cleaning. The basement needs to be cleaned and prepped for food storage. The garage for storing 3 tons of wood pellets for the winter. If my potato harvest is good I will need suggestions on where to keep them so they can dry / age a bit before storage. I do plan on freezing some, but it would be nice to keep some around for awhile. Sorry about your migraines @igorsMistress. Hope you feel better. Your sunrise picture is beautiful @adirondak5.
