What did you do in the garden today?

morning, another lovely day here ,going to plant some more peas ,beans and beetroot .just ordered a shredder was going to wait a bit longer but the mess at the bottom of the garden is getting on my nerves, can,t get much done there until everything cleared.Got a lot of wood to saw up ,offered some to my neighbour he wanted to make a dog kennel but has bought one instead .got an old armchair i threw out and just thought of how i can use part of it .amazing how some sunshine can waken the brain up a bit !

@WthrLady I'm SO glad you got that bastard (sorry for the swear)!! Certainly didn't take him long to come back. I hope you make something fantastic out of him!

@igorsMistress those artichokes are beautiful. :drool That is one veggie I do love & wish I could grow!

What about carrying some pepper spray for the neighbors dog? I won't take my dog anywhere anymore because people just ignore the leash law around here. He is very timid & gets nervous when dogs run up to him - a nervous, timid dog can go wrong quick. I had 2 yellow labs off leash on the trail running up to him, he's hiding behind me & they're yelling 'they're ok!' Uhhh, u THINK yours might be - but what about mine? What if my dog was the one that attacked - now I have to pay your bills?? I don't think so. When I had my pittie (sweetest dog EVER, wouldn't hurt a fly) & that would happen I'd yell back, 'mines vicious!' & watch them scramble to get their mutts back as I walked by with my perfectly behaved dog. :gigSeriously people, you know yours is ok - but what about the other dogs, how do you not care? /rant (sorry, that one gets me)

Aaaanyway. My habaneros started to sprout! It was because I unplugged the lamp & not the heat mat & was too lazy to throw out them out - the pepper Gods stepped in. LOL! This weekend I'm going to set up another hoop tunnel out there & try some bush beans in it. They sprouted & grew fast & I don't feel like repotting them so I'm gonna put them out & see. :idunno

DH is at HD & sent me this pic. We paid $30 something a panel when we put up the fence a year ago. :th

I'm in the process of building a new coop for the Silkies. I went to Lowes yesterday to get a couple of 2x4s for the covered run. An 8' long 2x4 is now $9 a piece!!!! I went down a separate aisle and they had some stained 2x4s (that are also 8 ft) in the decking section for $6.58???? Figure that out? I ended up buying those stained 2x4s.

They are saying that lumber prices are up because the mills have been so affected by covid among their workers that it has caused supply shortages. There are quite a few lumber mills in Arkansas. I call BS. None of them had any major impacts because of covid... I feel like the prices are being purposely driven up.

Either way, its causing a lot of pain to people who had projects that now must make a choice whether to continue....

And I'd be fully within my rights to shoot the stupid things. It's not their fault their owners are LAZY and don't control them.
This is the 4th time we've been attacked on a walk with our leashed dog since September. And twice before that while walking alone, without the dog. So 6 times!
Ridiculous.
I was attacked (mauled, really) by 4 dogs when I was 5 yrs old. Spent many months in the hospital. And when my daughter was 4 yrs old, she was attacked by a stray Chow in our backyard. I take dog attacks very seriously. And I LOVE dogs.... But I have ZERO compassion for an aggressive dog against people/property/animals where it doesn't belong. I'd be telling the neighbors that the next time their dog comes on my property, it is a dead dog. This is their one and only warning.

Wow! It is always a bad story when a kid gets attacked. And your daughter being attacked in your yard is bad.

when dog owners say “he/she doesn’t bite” it is such a clueless remark. Yes, a dog..any dog..all dogs WILL bite. Even timid dogs, nice dogs, sweet dogs, etc. of course, for trained or better natured dogs, it is less likely. We had a super-timid, very meek, very scaredy-fraidy dog that lived behind my dad’s ankle. If my dad was in his chair, she was behind his leg. If he got up to go anywhere, she was right there behind his ankle. She was a miniature long hair dachshund. A friend came to pick me up one day -never been to the house. Came inside and stood at the door. Did not move past the entry way bc we were going to leave. My dad/dog were 20 feet away, at least, I was walking down the stairs. All of a sudden, this meek-timid-fraidy dog zips out from behind my dad, runs over to friend, BITES their ankle, and runs back behind my dad. My dad and I watched this in shock, mouths open, and recovered our senses once dog had returned to dad’s ankle. Friend was bruised, but dog had not broken skin (small mouth, I guess). Have no idea why dog did that...never did it again. Anyway, ALL dogs will bite given the right circumstances.

@WthrLady -hopefully your neighbor dog situation improves.

Good morning all. I'm right there with you on the dog issue. When DD was 3 years old she was nearly killed by a "friendly" dog. You just don't know. It took me years to get over the shock of seeing her being mauled. She isn't afraid of dogs now but is a firm believer in leash laws. Also where she lived previously there was a bear den at the end of her dead end road so she would always carry bear spray when she walked her dogs there. I got my little hoop garden started yesterday. After 10 minutes the humidity was building under the plastic. I'll give that a week before planting anything there. There are still some cold overnight temps ahead of us so @Sueby, if you have some hot mulch you can put some under your hoops to keep it warm in there. I did pull the leaf mulch off the asparagus bed yesterday. I'll cover it up when the temps are supposed to dip. I finally got my potatoes from Gurneys and I am not happy. The red Pontiac potatoes are not red. They look more like yellow potatoes and there are two that look like they are starting to rot. I sent an email to Gurneys, but I'm sure they'll say that's normal. Funny though, the red seed potatoes I saw at the discount store a few days ago were quite red. I won't buy anything else from them again ever. Yesterday I noticed my parsley is growing as are the daylilies. The peach tree is budding up as well. I'm hoping my apple trees bloom this year.

OH yes, he's dead. He came back right after the sun set.
It is the LARGEST buck mink I have ever seen.
It froze last night so I had trouble getting a measurement, so I need to wait until he thaws and rigor leaves. Then I'll stretch him out and weigh him and get the stats to the state.
He didn't want to fit under the 5 gallon bucket, but I forced it. (keeping body from coyotes)
