What did you do in the garden today?

2 rats only? lucky you. the rats here consumed 3lb of poison and I had to by another 3lb pack which is going down rapidly. I am surrounded by fields and abbondoned houses.

Just wondering if anyone traps/kills these rats without using poison and then feeds the dead rats to their chickens? I know that may sound gross to some people, but I have visited many third world countries that the people will hunt, kill and eat field rats that feed on their rice and grain crops. I don't think I would want to eat a rat, but if I trapped or killed one that had not been eating poison, I think I would throw it back into the chicken run and let the birds tear it apart and eat it.

My birds do not eat them maybe feed less they will ..
I bought black rat traps fill with peanut butter have caught 9 or the 11 dead that way but also used the poison.. Only 1 dead that way, 1 but the dog snow at least she delivered it.

Our old place was down the street from a grocery store. Their dumpster was a rat buffet. Of course the rats then spread all over the place up and down the alley in everybody's yards and garages. I tried the oversized spring traps and they always failed to work. The trap would go off and the bait would be gone but no rat. I resorted to a small sized live critter trap and would then dispatch the rat after I caught it. Peanut butter was the best bait. I also was forced to call on neighbors who wouldn't clean up their dog poop and overgrown, unmaintained gardens (more like tomatillos that kept self seeding and growing wild that nobody every picked). The city eventually forced them to clean things up. If I was in a rural area I'd get a good pellet gun or small rifle and pick off as many as I could in any hot spot areas. The next best idea is a good mouser cat or dog.

Rats are not a problem here thankfully. Mice have been, and I trap them with multi traps (live traps) with bait blocks inside to finish them off.

Good news on the potatoes. The first ones we planted are coming up. I went out there during a break from work after the rain stopped. There's at least 8 up already. I planted near 20 in that row. I'm confident the others will be soon to follow. The next two rows were planted a bit later, so they should be popping up over the next week or so then.

I know some people do it with mice.
