What did you do in the garden today?

I'll try to get some pictures tomorrow. We have 8 (supposedly) pullets about 2 months old, 2 each of sapphire gem plymouth rock, barred rock, black australorp, and delaware. The barred rocks have the biggest combs but they both look pretty dark so I dunno. This morning is the first time I heard any crowing so sooner or later I'll catch the guilty party in the act. And I sure hope your little kitty makes it fine.
One of my old barred hens crowed when I did not have rooster

watch for red wattles. only cockerels at that age should have red wattles.

This year I created some cut flower areas in the garden, and finally in June there are many to pick now.

So, this morning a simple conditioning stand is assembled and it looks quite nice.

Good morning gardeners. I hope you all wishing for rain get it soon. We're finally getting a bit of a break from rain for a few days. My first potato flower bloomed this morning. Everything else seems to be doing ok, however the summer squash and cucumber plants are still growing very slowly. The peaches are doing well and appear to have more than doubled their size in the past 10 days. Not much planned for the garden today. I need to run to the feed store, then to the local grocery store. It's a little challenging getting anywhere right now as there is road work being done all around me. I'm hoping to get all the errands completed so I can get busy on the chicken coop addition. The littles are feathering out slowly, I guess because it's been so warm. They spend more time out from under the brooder plate and roosting on top of it. As long as they are healthy I'm happy. Enjoy your day!

Morning all :)

I let the irrigation lines water the garden yesterday while I weeded, fed and mulched. I came in SOAKED with sweat and I know the garden had too much water, but what wasn't taken in flowed off and into the 'lawn'. No harm no foul.

When I came in and showered I caught my bad thumb in a piece of wet clothing getting it off, YUP, twisted it all to heck again. Spent the whole day getting things done on the brink of tears. I swear. I hope to hay the fields next week or the week after, so it has to hold on til after that. Ranching is not for the faint of body. Phew.

Heading to, and over 100 HUMID degrees today and tomorrow. I'm glad I chose not to hay. hindsight is 20/20, because while it IS hot, it's not windy, and you really need some wind, especially in this humidity.

Next week is looking like too many rain chances, so we'll see.
Haymakers best friends, Tylenol and Xanax.

Need to tie up the tomatoes in the chicken garden and the birds need let out today. I sprayed for weeds yesterday, so they were stuck inside. BOY were they MAD.

Stay mucky all :)

Yay!!
Ate my first raspberry from the garden today!! :wee

watered, need to do some weeding.

the cucumbers are s l o w l y growing .. not that there are any buds or cucumbers.

lentils….new to grow this year. I read they do not compete well, so I’ve been weeding there pretty consistently. I’ve been trying to water, but carefully -not too much- as they tend to be grown in more dry areas. But, some are turning brown some look fine.

I finally up-potted my tomatoes last week. I'll have to get pictures of them now because they are very happy in their new homes. In the buckets are Orange Icicle (paste), and in the rectangular planter are Sweetheart of the Patio (cherry). I also have my asparagus (planted from seed last year in pots so I can bring them with me whenever we end up moving), sage and bolting parsley that survived winter, and gaillardia that are blooming.
These are my only plants, now, because I was finally able to give all the starts to my sister-in-law and her husband, and my 3 extra Orange Icicles went to my sister. So, yay! Less for me to think about!

Trained some cucumbers onto trellises. I'm really looking forward to the tunnel trellis being full of cucumbers eventually. The plans are finally starting to take off.
Banana and bell peppers are growing. Jalapeños are just starting to flower. The habaneros are farthest behind with no flowers yet, but they doubled in size over the past week.
I had two onions growing scapes. I snapped them off and decided to taste them raw. If they are any indicator of the taste of the onions, we will be getting some spicy onions. I are several bites and then broke the two scapes into pieces and scattered around the lettuce that keeps get nibbled on. Rabbits and squirrels avoid the onions, so maybe these scapes will keep then from the lettuce. Worth a shot.
We picked kale twice now. I can pick more still. I am considering cooking up some of the brussel sprout leaves. They seem like cabbage I'm texture. I haven't tried yet though. Anybody tried this before?
Not watering today since things look alright (for now at least).
