Root system here is outlandish have a huge pampas grass going to have to take a chain saw in to the bottom as the morning glory is all through it.. It had chocked a tree as soon as we moved here killed that

Yep! Morning glory sucks! I pull it regularly. It doesn't grow in our yard, but it pops up in the garden. I think it came with some bulk topsoil I bought a few years ago. I pull it when it is small. Occasionally it gets big on me with noticing. Then I pull the roots and remove any parts contracting the ground. It did back then and confess it whenever I clear whatever its wrapped around. That way I don't risk damaging a vegetable crop trying to completely remove the vines of the morning glory.

I am the one that is anal about it here I will sit there pulling it from where ever get bit allot in the blackberry patch BF left for me getting it out.

Not much gardening except dropping some mulch and picking a few tomatoes. I shredded a bunch of branches today which was the mulch I dropped in the garden pathways.

I pickled and canned garden vegetables indoors though. I really need to set this up outside though next time with all the heat it puts in the house. I canned pickle spears and chips as well as banana pepper rings. Plenty of frsh onion, garlic and dill added in too (except the few hats I forgot to add dill to. Oops!). I even added jalapeños to a few jars for some spicy pickle chips and spicy banana rings.

ETA the pickling liquid isn't that dark although it does have some ACV. These jars are purple. They are a 100 year anniversary series from Ball. I don't think they were a big seller because I got them from a Mennonite store for $0.30 each. I paid as much for canning lids today as I did these jars! I need to order lids online ASAP. Also, I purchased a generic brand from Farm and Fleet since it is what they had in stock and 5 of the lids dented after just a few minutes in a hot water bath. I fortunately had a few Ball lids on hand to replace the damaged ones.

I was going to make some seedless blackberry jam tonight but I have a headache and don't feel like slaving away in the kitchen. I have a bunch of veggies that need chopped up and put in the freezer. If only I had the energy of my kids...

Btw, I think a squirrel or other small rodent has discovered my garden. Maybe the deer too.... Not sure. I noticed that the entire top on my red bell pepper plant has been eaten off. I also noticed that one of the bell peppers was half eaten. There's little poop pellets underneath the plant on one side... Small which is why I suspect a rat or squirrel. On either side of that plant are hot peppers. Hasn't touched any of those....

I forgot to mention a funny incident that occurred in the garden earlier.

DW and I were in the garden and I was picking a few tomatoes that were ripening before it rained. DW was at the end of the row I was in. I noticed something was moving around on the other side of the row. I immediately figured it was a rabbit. The persist to find ways in. Then all of a sudden our French Bulldog came running in and chased the rabbit out. DW had no clue there was a rabbit moving around over there and as it bolted from the tomatoes over to the potatoes on the other side of the garden it ran right across her feet. She didn't scream, but she threw her hands up and looked very squeemish. I was saying, "It's a baby rabbit... just a baby rabbit." Which helped her calm down a bit, but I was certainly amused by her reaction.

Teen birthday in the books. Made cupcakes bc I had forgotten to get bananas to ripen for making the cake. So, Hummingbird cake will be made in a few days.

supposed to rain tonight and tomorrow. Hope so, the garden could use a good rain.

The dark speckled egg, what hen lays that for you? I have a Cuckoo Marans that lays eggs just like that.

Got the first batch of my scarlet beans, and 5 squash took from the new variety I got. Tomatoes are steadily ripening, finally harvested some coriander, fried some peppers, and harvested a few carrots. Found my BR in my planter eating tomatoes and rhubarb again

,Its been a whirlwind of change for us. Looks like we timed the sale of our ranch right. We got a full offer just 6 days on the market. The nice folks buying are taking the animals too. We feel very confident that our critters will continue lead healthy and happy lives here.i was able to find an nice rental for us and have traded my 2.5 acres to a yard with a pool. I started transferring veggies into pots and will be a container gardener for now. I plan to rest and recuperate over this next year. Were thinking about looking for our next home in Colorado and would love to hear from folks on recommendations of some nice places there we can check out. I know chickens will be in my future for sure. Im sad to leave my girls but know they will be happy in their home and won’t suffer the stress of relocating. I like this forum and will check in from time to time! Happy Gardening

So glad sale went well. And bonus that they want animals! Colorado is so expensive right now, but maybe doable once your ready. Good luck on the containers
