What did you do in the garden today?

Afternoon all. Had to actually go into the office today, boy that's not fun!

So nothing got done around here. @Wee Farmer Sarah I'm glad your littles are integrating well! & I can't tell you how happy we don't have soybean fields or those little bugs around here! We have enough between the west nile skeeters & the Lyme ticks.

My chicks are growing tail feathers. I can't believe how fast they grow. I'm glad I decided to do chicks, it's a venture all should take.

Yes, glad that you got the chicks - we hardly had to convince you, anyway!

It is AMAZING how fast they grow! You know, if you get a rooster.....then an incubator...you could hatch some, which is another amazing thing to experience....just sayin'

I might dig the rest of the potatoes tomorrow. I saved what I hope is the best producer for last: Elba.

I still have to dig up the habanero plant DH wants me to try to over winter. And pull up the rest of the dead/dying tomato plants. And plant the garlic and multiplier onions.

And mulch, mulch, mulch. Then add the piles of raked up leaves.

So, still quite a bit to do.

I'm holding out on my tomatoes... not sure I should though. There's a bunch of tomatoes out there and I would love to have enough ripen for a batch of sauce. Some of them are BIG too, but completely green still.
Same here. I’ll leave them as long as I can. When I see a freezing temp in my overnight lows, I will harvest everything and ripen them in the back room.

Same here as well. I LOVE the San Marzano's I've gotten so far, but the majority are still green on the plant and slow to mature since we're getting rain now. We're due for a few sunny days in the next week though, but after that I'll probably strip the plants and see how many ripen in a paper bag.
Most of the garden is done, except basil, a few carrots, a lot of apples and pumpkins and some squash or melon I don't recognize (I was random planting the squash seeds, to use up old ones) I hope it's a real "something" and not a cross-pollinated thing.
I stripped the eggplants, except one plant that's still putting out flowers (?!) so I left it for now. Also stripped the beans and cukes, though we might still get a few more cukes for salads, to go with the little bit of fall lettuce and spinach. Hoping for some fall cabbage, but the plants are still small and it's getting pretty late.
Harvested my sunflowers and hung them up in the carport, where they won't get rained on, hopefully they'll get lots of air to dry out.

I've been madly processing, and got through another canner-full (with my new canner that I love) of tomato sauce, two triple recipes of cucumber soup that are now in the freezer, and pickled one giant zucchini, the rest I need to shred and either freeze or make fritters.

I'm running out of room in the freezer! And I still have so much basil to harvest - I'll probably end up pressure-canning pesto. Anyone near Tacoma, WA want as much fresh basil as you can take? I really mean it - too much will go to waste otherwise.

Today it rained just about all day, so I cleaned my kitchen, did laundry, and planted some bulbs in containers in between raindrops. I should have processed those zucchini, but didn't want to wreck my clean kitchen, so we ordered pizza and watched a movie.
