What did you do in the garden today?

Went to dig up the okra today but man oh man, two of those plants, not a darned leave left on them, just sticks with friggin flowers !! they are STILL producing... I'll leave them two in until t hey die off, the garlic will just have to grow around them..

I got the side yard raked up. There are 6 big piles of leaves in the garden. I'll spread them out another day, or maybe next spring. There are other places that need raking, but if they don't get it, well, they don't. I got the "have to" parts done.

I put a bin of leaves in the run, and the chickens took it apart in about 10 minutes.

@NewBoots we though he was part Basenji when we got him because he has some weird issues (he still does) so we had him DNA tested - here's the results:

He may be part Basenji as they are in the Sighthound group - but he is definitely half Rat Terrier! I'd never heard of them until this came back, it totally makes sense.

I wish I could find rat terrier here.

I finally found a guy who butchered 4 male rabbits. he will take 2 females on saturday and I will keep 2 remaining females. they are good manure producers. tomorrow my guinea fowl will go to athens to my friends, 3 cockerels will be butchered so finally I will be able to dismantle 2 coops and enlarge garden.

I wish I could find rat terrier here.

He's a good boy, mostly. If he were trained properly he'd be a great hunter, he certainly has the drive.

My experience with Jack Russell's and Rat terriers is that they are amazing at what they do, very loving, very intelligent... But don't let them near your chickens. They have a high prey drive.

Patrick would LOVE to eat every one of my chickens! Especially the babies because their cheeps sound like chippies & it drives him insane. He loves to eat any feathers he can find too. I mean yum, right?

We talked and mulched a bobcat of leaves yesterday and then dumped them on the garden. Need to do more today.

I also need to remove the marigold plants and pull what seeds I can. Can I store them in the fridge? Since they don't overwinter naturally, I'm wondering if keeping them cold is OK.

Today is cloudy but in the upper 50s. The warmest day this week, so I'm going to get outside.

Rain finally arrived and put an end to outdoor work . I did do some leaf blowing and got the chainsaw running . Did a little trimming .

When I first saw his picture I thought Pharaoh Hound but Basenji would work too. He really is a sharp looking dog.

I pulled more of the tomatoes, and other assorted vegetable plants from the raised beds. I found a happy healthy pepper plant in the middle of a big group of dead tomato plants. Pulling the tomatoes out probably doomed the pepper since the upright composting of the tomatoes were keeping that pepper warm. I'll dig it up later and put in in a pot in the greenhouse. I'll definitely be planting peppers again next season, I got a surprising amount of fruit from them this last season. And DP wants me to make more cowboy pickles since everyone she gives them to loves them. She can't eat them herself (too hot and she hates any pepper flavors) but knows what great gifts they make now.

It's been beautiful and sunny the last couple of days but more rain is expected. That's great since we are still short for the year but the lake is filling up again which is really awesome. Going fishing in a few minutes.
