For the most part, I think I will keep these seeds inside, until they sprout. I have a few "sprouting" containers. Then, I will move them out and keep them covered until they are large enough. We have a few tall fences that mostly keep deer out, but my dad claims to have saw one. And of course, there are quite a few ground squirrels too. If I do have questions, I will definitely ask all of you experienced people!

Did some more weeding today. Planning to get a few seeds soon. I am in zone 9 and am planning to plant some lettuce, spinach, carrots, and maybe some broccolli or cauliflower. Any other recommendations on what to plant? I am very new to planting edible foods. Thanks!

3-6 inches my butt! We have about a foot already & a couple more hours to go, in the heaviest of it now. Thankfully it's light & fluffy & not sticking to the bird netting - my kinda snow. Chickens won't be happy when they wake up.

Agreed on the starts for brassicas. I’m zone 9 or 10 depending on where you look and those take way too long to grow from seed to start now.

Good snowy morning all. Firstly, I love the taste of bananas, but sadly I'm allergic. It's a good thing I like snow because we are finally getting a plowable snow. Little Max seems to love it or at least hops right through it and does his duty. LOL! We were forecasted to get between 1 to 3 inches. There's likely 4 or more inches out there now. I'll certainly be getting some cardio in today from shoveling out to the chicken coop and running the snow blower. I'm glad we are finally getting the snow because it helps to insulate the chicken run and the perennials in the herb garden. And then there's the nitrogen fix. I ran some errands yesterday and picked up a few seeds at my discount store. I got leek seeds. I'm thinking of starting them as soon as I finish cleaning all the remnants of the holidays out of the sunroom. Apparently they need a very early start in my climate, so we'll see how it goes. Frigid temperatures are headed our way early next week. I'm not looking forward to that. Have a great day everyone.

I have this 10'x10' area in my garden plan that I'm not sure what to do with. Notice the big yellow square at the lower center.

I tentatively placed some pumpkin and squash here in the plan. I'm not committed to these though. This area is just open ground. There's a 4' garden fence along the lower side, a raised bed of herbs to the left and rows of potatoes to the right. I could put more rows or mounds or whatever in here, but not sure of what so I'm open to ideas. Please make suggestions or just share your favorite things to grow that are not in my list already. Here's the list so far of everything in the garden plan:
