What did you do in the garden today?

I grew up in northern Indiana/southern Michigan. The snow belt due to lake effect. I used to play outside all day long in the frigid temps and barely noticed it. I can remember coming inside and putting my hands under warm water just to get feeling in them again. lol... I've lived in the south for the past 20 years though. If it gets below 50 degrees, I'm frowning. I get annoyed when I have to manually haul water to the animals because the hose is frozen. Grrr..... I'm spoiled like that.... February is the coldest month here. By March, it'll be back up into the 50's and 60's regularly so I only have to suck it up for a few more weeks. At least this year I have nice toasty warm fireplace to help make it all better!

I have never tried this before, but it looks like I have had some luck in rooting some edible figs during the winter. This is the Hardy Chicago variety, but I have four other varieties coming along at later stages. Home grown figs are truly a treat when you can harvest them fresh from the backyard!

We keep the house at 63 in the winter but don't heat the bedroom. I keep the window open so it's generally about 40 in there, sometimes below freezing, perfect sleeping weather! I despise summer, I hate heat. Anything over 75 is too hot for me. The ac cannot make it cold enough in the summer to sleep, it's set as low as it will go.

@Wee Farmer Sarah it is still just rain here & 34 degrees.

I ordered some lemon thyme seeds, some more pods for the aeorgarden & a couple different morning glory seeds. That's my gardening extent!

I really should get on buying what seeds/plants/seed potatoes I will need for the garden. Although, first I need to figure out how much of everything I need. I'm just not feeling terribly motivated because seed-starting seems so far away, but I'll have my hands full in a few weeks when we bring home our puppy. So, I'm going to make myself double-check my garden plan for any possible mistakes, and go through my seeds to figure out if I need more of anything I have. That is.... if I don't get distracted by chocolate....

Yeah, with the potato shortage, I'm a little concerned about buying seed potatoes this year. I should probably get on that right away.....

My hands are pruned. I just washed 42 pots and 3 flats for my Amish Paste starts. They are 3.5" pots and I can get 14 of them into a starter flat. I an going to plant 60 seeds in them, so 18 will have two seeds. That's all the Amish Paste seeds I have and I hope to get 40 plants to transplant into the garden in May. I also still need to wash more pots for the Purple Cherokee and Yellow Pear starts (12 each I think) I'm targeting the weekend after Valentine's for sowing tomato seeds, but I might end up doing it a little sooner...

I need to figure out how early I started peppers last year. I think it was right with the tomatoes. Thinking I should start eggplant with tomatoes also. If so, that means even more washing. I need 32 pepper transplants and 6 eggplant transplants for the garden, so probably washing another 42 pots and 3 flats. My poor hands...
