What did you do in the garden today?

I see a lot of my friends on here planting stuff outside.
I usually wait until around Mother's Day when my husband and boys help me plant, as my gift. ;) Even then I still cover everything for a few weeks.
I know some people are south of me, and it's time to plant but zone 5er's planting? You all are making me nervous... like I'm missing out.
Next week's forecast here shows a few days at or below freezing for low temperatures, so I'm going to hold tight for now.

EOWs are like asparagus... patience for a couple seasons, so they get established, then they will take off.
EOWs taking off.....that's what I'm afraid of, them running away. Packing up their tiny luggage and just wandering away in a huff.

replanted black and green leaf lettuce. It was there, and then it wasn't.
most of the onion starts have popped up, another weird germination batch.
the mums are looking great.
Seed shed is puttering along.
Ugly weather later today and into tonight. It could pass me by and I'd be OK with that.

So I tripped on my own feet yesterday and started to fall backwards. I could have caught myself but... my scoot-along baby was on the floor immediately behind me. Instead, I managed to hook the side of the crib (bent my thumbnail back in the process), and fall/swing myself away from her and into the floor. Couldn't really break my fall, caught hard on hip, elbow, and shoulder all down one side. Pulled a muscle or something in the opposite shoulder, no doubt from the impact, and spent all night in pain. Still in pain. Neck protests if I turn too fast. :hmm Guess I'm not as young as I used to be? First time I can recall being falling and really really hurting the next day from hitting the ground.

Well it made the morning chores a little slower, but I got it all done. Two scoops of fermented feed for the big chicks, add that amount back in of equivalent dry feed, water and stir. Water the big chicks. Water the garden, check things that aren't coming back yet. Chase the cat out of the garden. Feed and water the cat. Clean water and check food for little chicks in the house.

All done. Time to have a cup of tea and try to take it easy.

Hope its just a pulled muscle for you. Took a fall back in Jan putting on my boots. Baby, the cat, was playing speed bump and I didnt want to squish him so I tried to catch myself on the doorway. Dislocated elbow, cracked bone, torn tendon, burst ligaments and something wrong in my wrist. Looking at a year before I have almost full use of my right arm back.

Life is a little busier now, for the next month. It’s been 8 weeks since DH fell on ice, broke leg..then had surgery for a plate and screws to ensure correct healing. But, he’s not cleared to drive yet, as it’s the right leg injured. So I’m his driver for the next few weeks, and it’s almost an hour each way. Well that town has some other businesses that are good for errands, so that’s good. But youngest can’t drive either, so I’m basically going to be a chauffeur for awhile while trying to get in some spring gardening.

Stopped by farm store today, bought onion starts - I’ll hopefully plant them today. Storms tomorrow. Also stopped in another farm store and between the two of them I kept the purchased minimal- a feat considering they have all kinds of seeds and lovely plants snd starts.

Some people are freaking out over feed supply, so I asked at the smaller/local owned farm store- spoke with the owner and they said no issues with feed. Price might be higher, and biggest issue they know of is truckers to transport the goods. They indicated that they usually know well in advance if there will be a problem, but said not an issue to worry about that they are aware of. Speculated it might be a bigger issue in larger population centers.

A few days ago, I put starts in the sun for a few hours. Must have been too much sun as some leaves withered afterwards - no wind, colder (not cold) and not hot, plants were moist. So, hopefully the next set of leaves form ok and the plants grow fine.

Last year I posted pics throughout the egg phase and development of baby robins that were in a nest conveniently located for pics. They tried to start s nest this year. Uh, nope! Find another place far from my chickens! Also, we were always walking past the nest and had parents flying in/out all the time, so we figured they could find a better location.
