What did you do in the garden today?

I think I've got everything planted I have room for, except for a couple of raised beds that will be seeded with a buckwheat cover crop when the time comes.
It's gotten hot here early this year. Low 90's last week, mid 90'S this week. And to top that off, no rain, less than 1/4" in April. Was supposed to get some(?) over the weekend but nada.. And the wind blowin every day keepin things dry. Waterin every day somewhere.
Oh well, that's gardening!
Happy diggin.
Not really gearden stuff, except maybe the fertilizer I get, but, the goats. The young ones. Born in January so they're not so little anymore. Probably about 30-35 lbs. now. The chicken pen is in the goat pen. There is a little door I use to let the chickens into the 1 acre goat pen. The door is about 12" x 15". It's left open during the day so the late layers can lay in the nests and they will be back in their place by bedtime. Was feeding this evening when I heard a noise that I had never heard in the chicken pen before. Sounded like hoofs on wood. The little guys had gotten thru that little door, First time ever, and had eaten all the chicken feed outta the feeder. About 30 lbs. of it! When they saw me they left probably a lot faster than they came in. They didn't get fed very much tonight!

Little late, but I put in stakes and tied up the tomatoes that have been trying to vine on the ground. Put in tomato cages. Applied fertilizer. Transplanted a rosemary plant down next to my blackberries to hopefully keep the deer away. Hope to move one more to the berries and another around the vegetable garden. Transplanted two bunches of daffodil bulbs to a better spot next to the irises. Planted watermelon and cuke seeds to replace the ones lost to frost and birds. Strawberries are coming in, estimate about 90% of them are going to make it. Not hopeful for most of the cherokee purples, but I might get some fruit/seeds off of one of them. The brandywines and mountain reds look to be coming along well with the cherry tomatoes.

Looks like I'm going to have to buy some tomato plants from the greenhouse soon.

Anyway, I had my husband dump a couple buckets of cow manure compost in a huge mound. Then I threw some potatoes that I had bought to eat but that started growing onto the huge pile. After randomly throwing potatoes all over it I had him dump another bucketful of compost on. This was a month ago.
I was tired of babying potatoes and barely getting any. So, I thought I'm going to plant them and mostly ignore them.
Literally I've done nothing to them, and 5 plants are coming up, lol.:gig

I have a number of garden wagons and tow-behind the riding mower trailers. This spring, I had 5 flat tires to repair/replace. One of my garden wagons had all 4 tires flat, so I got a set of 4 inner tubes from Amazon and put them in a few days ago. That pack of 4 inner tubes set me back $22.00. Locally, they were $9 each. I hope those inner tubes will last longer than the previous ones. In general, I'm not too happy with any of the inner tubes I have purchased in the last few years. They all seem to be of poor quality and I am lucky to get a full season out of them.

Today, I replaced a tire on one of my tow-behind trailers with a more expensive no-flat tire. You know, the solid filled tire that has no inner tube. The inner tube for that tire was $15, but I opted for the $38 no-flat tire and just be done with blowing inner tubes on that trailer. In theory, the no-flat tire should pay for itself in 2 years - assuming I would continue to blow all these inner tubes every year.

Not too exciting, but it's nice to have all my wagons and trailers back in service and ready to go. Where I live, we plant our gardens more or less on Memorial weekend. So, I'm actually ahead of schedule on some things.

Waterered. Put tomatoes out at 8am & brought them back in at 8pm. That’s it.
I was busy waiting for this:

Rhubarb bed built! This is in the N side of the compost bin. It is 6x6, so each planting square is 3x3. The cost of wood!!! Crazy.

We have 4 Rhubarb plants. One is in a 4” pot that we just got in the mail. The other 3 are in very large pots on the deck, and were dormant roots They are growing well, but do I transplant now? Are Rhubarb very temperamental with transplanting when young? My guess is that they should transplant fine. But, anyone know?

The cost of wood!!! Crazy.

No doubt. FWIW, I have switched over to making corrugated steel panel raised beds instead of all wood raised beds. In my case, I had lots of scrap lumber to use to make the frames for the garden bed, so I only had to purchase the corrugated panels. I made each of my 4X4 foot steel panel beds for less than $25.00 each.

Good morning!

So a while ago I bought some potatoes for planting, 2 weeks ago I put them on the windowsill to grow eyes like the directions said and then cut them last night to plant today. Well this morning they look moldy, are these still ok to plant?? I’ve never done potatoes so I don’t know what to do

next time don't cut them before planting. keep them in a plastic bag in some dark place and they will sprout.

I was feeling pretty down when we planted my tomatoes a couple days ago. The wind keeps whipping them around everyday and I ran out of clear plastic to wrap them with and I have no money to buy more right now. :(
I have covers for my peppers.
By the way. I cut up and freeze Jalapeños so that I can have some all year. (I just ran out, so grow peppers, grow!)

tomatoes are tough. I hope they will be ok.
