What did you do in the garden today?

Todays task of tying up squash plants is completed. Everything looks good out there after the past few rainy days.

JBs seem in lower numbers now - not sure if that’s just bc it was cooler and rainy. I’ll have to keep checking today. When they first showed up, for about a week or more, it wasn’t too bad. Then BAM! Tons of them. Put out traps, began handpicking for the last week or so. Maybe their numbers are dwindling. How long does the JB season usually last?

Awesome! Thank you for the tips! I was wondering how they squeeze so many plants into the small space so trimming a lot is what I'll do!
Honestly, I don’t ever use all the holes in mine. I plant in succession for a constant supply. Start on one side, then the middle then the other side. There are some disks you can get to cover unused holes, you need to keep light out of the reservoir to prevent algae.

I ordered a package of the empty plugs to plant some of my own lettuce seeds in. The kit came with an herb package but I feel I would be wasting it if I use it for herbs this time of year while they're abundant outside, lol.
I'm itching to plant in it though because the empty plugs are taking forever to arrive!
I'm going to be experimenting with different ways to reuse these cups too. There has to be a less expensive way rather than buying a ton of plugs.
I don’t mind buying the plugs but I do reuse the cups. Be careful getting the roots cut off and then wash with soap and water. I have some I’ve reused several times.

Awesome! Thank you! You took a lot of the guess work out for me.
I also read that a lot of people use a little diluted bleach to clean the base in-between uses to prevent algae. I may give mine a little cleaning before I use it.

My pleasure, I hope you enjoy it, I really love mine!

I seem to have WAY less JB this weekend than last weekend and our temps haven't changed so I'm thinking maybe the JB season is on the tail end?

Well I'm pretty sure I've lost ALL the strawberries in all 7 bed I had planted from septoria. 🙁 I am going to create entirely new beds from the 55 gallon drums. Hopefully this design will not only allow me to water (and retain moisture) more easily but also keep disease to a minimum.

I did water everything this morning. Figured out I have a ton of squash bugs attacking my cukes. Since I've already made 8 jars of pickles, I'm not that concerned about losing them but I am picking off the bugs as I find them.

Did I fail to mention how STINKING CUTE a baby duckling is with her mama? My hens have also hatched out at least 5 more chicks too... 🙄 On a positive note, I did manage to find homes for 2 more Silkie roosters. 😊

DH and I are talking our granddaughter back to her parents and then having a little getaway tonight for ourselves. 😊

Well DH finally came to check on me about 10...lol
Then he finally decided to join me!
We make a good team if I can get him motivated....he has no problem eating it all! Lol
Anyways got the squash pulled up that had been killed off by critters. Neighbor is gonna let me borrow her live trap she used to catch one of the ground hogs plaguing her garden.(tiny little baby one)
Not sure if trap is big enough for the mamaJama one I saw in my backyard or not...but would be interesting to see what all is determined to tear up everything!
Moved a cucumber plant that I assumed wasn't gonna do anything then of course takes off after I had planted 5 more in other end of bed.
Got tomatoes moved up to.account for massive growth since we got little rain!!!
I had 5 almost ripe (turning really well) chocolate cherry tomatoes! Excited to see how they taste!!!
Got the larger cantaloupe propped up and mulched underneath all of it and the zucchini!
Then got to lookin at the sunflowers when I noticed a few small blooms! It's not sunflowers! It's either cantaloupe or watermelons that seeded I guess from the rhines I've been laying over in the compost bed from chickens!!! Wasn't supposed to be anything in the compost bed but sunflowers! Will it be ok to eat em from there ya think? Or would they be considered contaminated having grown in compost bed?

Come on by. I hope you like potatoes too. This is from the first 15 ft of the 100 row-feet of potatoes I planted, all Adirondack Blue so far (and this is only 2/3 thirds of those). Their tops have completely died down so I'm starting with them. The other 5 varieties' tops are dying back and will follow shortly. I grabbed another cantaloupe while I was out there because it was nearby and staring me in the face. I'll go back and get the other 4 or 5 that I know are ready later this evening.
