What did you do in the garden today?

1. Cover crop is coming up really well. I think I overplanted it. It shouldn’t be an issue though.
2. Compost pile is massive. I need to make sure it finishes by March. At least that’s my goal. If not I’ll just sift it in March.
3. I hope to expand our garden later this week. It needs to dry out some more though. It’s about 750 square and we will expand it to 1250 square feet.
4. As soon as that happens, we will plant 100 or so bulbs for spring.

I remember growing up on south side of chicago we'd get lake storms and theyd dump a foot or so of snow on us. Some winters Id have to climb on the roof of the house and shovel the snow off because it was getting heavy. I remember there'd be like this 8 foot pile of shoveled off snow and Id go jumping into it, burying myself all the way up to the crinkle tart then having to try to shake yourself loose.

But then there was the endless shoveling. My dad had a MONSTER snow blower that i used to run. one day I was being nice and did the neighbors sidewalks for him, but didn't realize that Ed put the garbage out the night before (it was covered with 8 inches of snow so didnt see it) I hit that with the blower and it sucked that crap up and threw it all up on his roof. Man was he pissed, I think more by the fact that I couldn't stop laughing about it. ahh the innocent days.

today, im in florida and if I never see the crap again it's too soon. Besides with the hardware in my spine, very cold tends to be very bad days for me.

Nothing in the garden today. It was 25F when I got up this morning. I had to drive to Boston for a medical appointment. The drive really tires me out. The plan tomorrow is to work on the big garden bed in the backyard and start gathering leaves from the chicken yard. I need to buy some compost since my ready pile is about gone and used up. I heard there’s a spike in fertilizer prices coming so I thought I might buy what I need now before that happens. There’s still a few days of warmer than normal temps before the cold really sets in. I’m pretty much done with the roller coaster temps.

Working hard to get this duck coop finished by Friday. Then I'll spend Friday afternoon catching up on garden chores.... Or at least that's my plan.

I really want to go pick up some apples and can them.

Hubby lent me his elbow brace, and it's helping. Still didn't go dig in the dirt. I think I should rest it and let it heal.

Today I got the rest of the wind protection around the run. Poor birdies will wonder what I was thinking tomorrow when it's nice. By this weekend, they'll be glad I gave them a nice windbreak. Well, they may not know that they're glad, but I'll know.

currently very windy and 79 degrees, tomorrow's daytime high will be 34. LOL Insane.
The henhouse is nwo winterized.
Haircut day otherwise. It's....different. I shall need to learn how to do it properly to make it not look like a mop ugh.

I never though about the hardware being cold. Guess I'll find out. I have those stick on hot patches, I'll have to remember them.

Beautiful day out today, sunny & 50. Too bad I gotta work!

It’s not that the hardware is cold. Hubs says he feels achey in the cold. He feels that way when a storm is rolling in also.

I let the birds out, and put up the winter storm windows, added the water bowl heater, installed a new swing, and three bags of pine shavings. I then tossed in an apple and all the birds went in, except Odin. For an hour and a half I tried to get him in. He's extra hard as he only has one eye, but lordy, what a challenge.

The duck coop is progressing slower than I'd hoped because of daylight challenges. We are getting maybe 30-45 minutes of light after work to do anything. *Sigh*

Second coating of pecan leaves went in today. After the tropical storm gets out of here on Friday and everything dries out, I will start plowing the leaves into the soil.
