What did you do in the garden today?

It's in the 40's outside right now, so I haven't been out there, but we brought in anything in containers last night, and covered everything recently planted. Really hoping everything survives the freezes we're having right now. We're in western Kentucky and the weather has been all over the place.

Yesterday I finished clearing out some well established orange day lilies that were in the future chicken run. I'm surprised I can move today! lol I'm going to plant marigolds, dandelions, mint, and sunflowers where the lilies were. I'd really like to plant some chickweed there as well.

Such nice weather and the garlics and tomatoes are happy. I need to hammer a couple more poles for the Baladi tomatoes, I’ve been delaying it for too long. This time I WON’T hit my fingers.

Independence Day is in a few days, there will be roasted goat, smoked goat, slow cooked goat and goat bones for the dogs. Lol. This poor guy.

Such a pretty boy though.... Of course I cry over every chicken I butcher too....

Thanks! I’m just beginning to look into wicking buckets. I really like how well my tomatoes are doing with Kratky so far. I haven’t had to add nutrients and they’re starting to flower. I would like to grow things in the sun garden though, without having to put a cover on it. I’m thinking it can be a hybrid area, with some in ground space for corn, artichokes, potatoes and carrots and a section for things that would be ok in buckets like tomatoes, peppers, etc. Some of that space has drainage issues and containers would be better.
I was always taught that it’s impossible to grow carrots and peppers at the same time. I guess my father LIED (like when he said crying will make you a girl, and if pigeons poop on you it means you will have a fantastic day, or if I ate bacon right after cheese without having parsley in between I will go to hell).
Good luck 🍀

Forgot to mention that I hatched out 15 or 16 chicks yesterday. Haven't counted them yet... This morning I noticed one egg had zipped but then stalled out. No progress in over 12 hrs. I thought maybe it became shrink wrapped and died. When I took it out, it was chirping so I went ahead and assisted a little. Carefully peeled back shell. It had definitely absorbed everything...but the chick itself was quite large with a big round belly. It had a foot stuck in a position that didn't allow it to extract itself from the shell. Without intervention it would have died. After a little help, I was able to turn it's foot to stay in the right direction. I went ahead and used a pipe cleaner to hobble him/her since it was looking a bit splay legged. I'll monitor her/him closely today. If it can't manage to stand, then I'll cull it.

Good morning gardeners. Today was productive outside. Got everything transplanted, new nutrients for the peppers, and water sitting to make new nutrients for this Hungarian Heart tomato plant. It had pretty much fallen over by this morning and some of the leaves are limp, but it has flowers on it.

The hibiscus is blooming, probably won’t last long after transplant

Got the welded wire attached to the trellis. We’re going to have to do a little more work on the whole thing, strengthen it up some, but it’s progress

I’ve decided to go with SIP beds in the sun garden with a single bed along the north end dedicated to artichokes in one half and not sure what else in the other. Maybe artichokes all the way across, I’ll have to measure first. Need to go for groceries, then laundry and dog baths. Have a great day all!

We don’t grow them together. Carrots are cool season and peppers are warm.

There are no reviews for Princess Yum Yum tomato on You Tube and I don't think anyone on this board has tasted it. I may get to taste them in a few weeks, I see some turning red, but its like one or two on a 12 fruit cluster. I started putting fruit bags on fruit clusters that are turning red, to prevent the birds from getting them.

I got to taste one sweet heart cherry tomato and I think its better than the Sun Gold and Sun Sugar from my yard.

If anyone want to try Princess Yum Yum, this is where I got the seeds from;
