What did you do in the garden today?

I have done the squash before, both yellow annd zucchini, and love those. Have you ever tried tomato chips? OMG, so good! I like to use Roma for that.

I have not. I'm not a tomato fan. I only like a good BLT twice a year, & a nice slice of a Brandywine on a burger. Not sure I could handle chips! DH would love them though.

I’m not a huge tomato fan either, which is why I needed to dehydrate a bunch. I just happened to try a few and I was addicted lol.

I am hoping that tree falls down in a good windstorm. It's dead, and out where it will not matter which direction it falls. Nothing will be damaged. So, I have been waiting it out.

In the meantime, I'm watching YouTube videos on tree felling for my particular case. Have not yet found a video with what I'm dealing with but learning a lot about tree felling and gaining more knowledge. Never too old to think I know it all.

Also, my longest chainsaw bar is 16 inches. The tree trunk is wider than my bar. I'm estimating maybe 22 inches round where I would cut it. I have done that, and bigger, trees before without any problems, but this tree has rotted wood going into the trunk, so I don't know how strong/stable it will be. It's the unknown that gives me pause.

Very frugal

Well, it may save a little money not buying briquettes and using junk wood instead. But as I recall, the briquettes did not work any better for burning out stumps than using junk wood.

I also got rid of a lot of pallet wood bits and pieces that I had in a few buckets. Lumber that was not good for anything else. I just dumped that into the burn barrel, with nails and all, and got rid of a large trash can full of that stuff. After the fire was exhausted and the ashes were cool, I ran my magnetic pickup tool in the ashes and pulled out all the nails and screws. I suppose I could have left the nails and screws in the hole, but I like to clean things up before I backfill the stump hole and plant new grass seed.

What's frugal is not renting a stump grinder at $100 per day if you don't have any need for quick results. Years ago I had about 20 stumps in the yard, and I did rent a stump grinder at the time. Stump grinders are quick and it was worth it for me for a full days rental. But when I'm only dealing with one or two stumps and don't care how long it takes, I just burn them out. With the fire rings, it makes for nice little campfires throughout the summer.

I tried the Chickens on bitter melon before & they did not like it, period! Green one.

This time things were different this melon turned yellow & split open at the end.
When you look inside the dense spongy inside filled with seeds has changed. The
inside is empty except for the seeds covered with a sweet red covering that the chickens
love.

Lucky thing, the cukes aka. their favorite has bit the dust, & we just planted more. The bitter melons are wearing out their welcome. & the chickens love them, especially the red covering on the seeds.

A tomato slice on a toasted Ball Park hamburger bun with mayonnaise taste totally different than on white bread slices. It surprised me and gave me a wow experience.

Good info. Thanks. I am growing bitter melon this year for the first time and we are going to try to save some seeds for planing next year. Good to know about the change of color of the red covering and that the chickens like it.

We had a really small bitter melon go bad and I threw it into the chicken run. The chickens did not seem to be interested in it at all, but a few minutes later it was gone. It could have been picked up and dropped elsewhere or buried in the chicken run litter. I don't know if they ate it or not. If I get to the point where I toss them a fully ripe, or overripe bitter melon, I'll have to take more time to watch them to see if they eat it or not.

I blocked off my herbs everything else that fruits is gone. My herbs are in a shaded area so they haven’t been hit hard. Everything in direct sunlight just stopped fruiting. They would flower and then drop off. No mater if I hand pollinated or gave them extra care. They were producing just fine until this weather got really bad. There is always next year .

Hopefully next year will be better for you to get your garden producing good.

I would try tying a chain or really stout rope around it and hook it up to the truck or tractor and pull like there's no tomorrow. Might not remove all of it but at least maybe some of it would fall.
