What did you do in the garden today?

You could let the dill go to seed and collect the seeds and use them when cooking. You can grind them into a powder and use them for deviled eggs. I use mustard, celery seeds and powder. I love having unique flavors in my food. I use them for stuffing deviled eggs and macaroni salad.
Good idea!

I'm officially sick of looking at apples. The last 22 apples are cored and in the crock for apple sauce.
That's 50 pounds of apples in 7 days, processed (well, as soon as I jar up the applesauce.)
I know, I'll be glad of it come winter, but glory.

Yes, I'll go back and get one more 25 pound bucket mid-October, but I LOVE the late season apples :p

I though you mentioned that deer at your kale. Must've been someone else.

The deer ate my kale at the end of last year. We were getting into the fall season when the deer found the kale, so I had lots of good kale prior to that. This year, I did not plant any kale or swiss chard. That was a mistake. Next year I will be sure to have those ready to go.

Overall, the garden was a success, even after the deer demolished my first attempt.

Love those pictures of the deer protection. I think at one time you were considering a high fence or something around your garden. Did you find the frames and wire on the raised beds to be more effective or less costly? That's what I think I would do. Just protect the beds that the deer might eat.

Carrots have their second leaves!

We have some BIG bees coming to the Tithonia blooms, their abdomens are looong. I didn't have a proper camera, but got a couple pretty good shots with my phone:

Anyone know what kind of bee they are?

And let's not forget the writing spider that's spinning beautiful webs amongst the canna lilies:

It looks like a yellow jacket or a wasp.
