What did you do in the garden today?

I think I will have to try those beets because beets yuck.

Agree... beets
Before going to the work of growing them, I bought some at the store. I can spend $2.49 on something and try cooking it a couple different ways. The yellow beets taste less "like dirt" than the red ones do, according to my memory. My "hmm, this tastes like XYZ" meter said that yellow beets tasted similar to the last bit of a kernel of corn that's stuck in the cob. An earthy taste to be sure, but it reminded me of summer corn on the cob dinners when I was a kid. I roasted them in the oven, and the sugars carmelized a bit, which to me is always a good taste.

I've added 3 new "I like those" vegetables in the past few months. Chard, collards, and beets and beet greens. So is that 4?

My golden beet and some collard seeds came in the mail. I'll be planting 2 kinds of collards this year.

I'm trying Chard this year also. I'm also going to try fennel, cinnamon basil, asparagus beans. I'm also doing chamomile, spearmint, artichoke tarragon. There's more to my list but I need to get busy.

This is something else I need to "buy and try" from the store. I love the taste of anise, so maybe I'd like fennel.

I have heard that it needs to grow by itself, as it "does not play well with others."
I grow bronze fennel in the middle of my herb garden. I've never had a problem with it being a problem.

Got the 3rd barrel of strawberries cleaned up. I think altogether I collected about 30 runners that weren't potted up. I put them in water to revive them... Now I just gotta figure out where to plant them if they root.

And... I bought yet more flower seeds from Seeds N Such. They had some really cool stuff that I just had to have... OK, I'm done now. Swear!

Fennel has varieties that are for the bulb or for the seeds. Kinda like CX or layers.

Chard is what I grow because spinach usually bolts after 3 leaves 😂. I still try spinach and if it's a cool wet spring I am successful. Keep saying I'm trying in the fall but forget.
Chard developed from beets, also known as silver beet. Would never know because roots are totally different.
