What did you do in the garden today?

I wanted to share my adventure into yogurt making. I made my first small batch as a fun activity to do with the grandkids. I used the recipe for homemade yogurt from the Old Farmers Almanac website. I was never a fan of yogurt but I thought it would be fun. The recipe is so easy. You heat the milk then cool it a bit, whisk in 1/2 cup of unflavored greek yogurt, Wrap the pot in dish towels and put it in the oven to do its fermenting. Don’t turn the oven on. I left the pot in the oven overnight. In the morning you get this amazing creamy yogurt. The bonus is it cost half of what you would pay in the grocery store. The flavor is really good and I’m on my second batch now.

there is another version. instead of yogurt we can put freshly squeezed lemon juice. never tried it but they say it tastes better and yogurt is less dense. when my goats grow, breed, give birth - sometimes next year I'll be doing that. I would like to make a drinkable yogurt.

My dog disappeared yesterday. I let her out about 2 PM and laid down for a little over an hour. Got up and no dog. In that time someone called the police and said someone dumped the dog. Police came ran my plates called in the animal shelter and they took my dog off my deck. No one knocked on the door to ask is this your dog. I searched and had a sleepless night. Searched again today. Animal shelter open from 12 to 2. They had her and admitted she took her from my deck.
That's horrible.
Need tags with address on...but I guess they wouldn't look at those if they couldn't knock.

Hopefully you didn't have to pay anything to get her back since they took her from your property...
This is the state of Illinois, have to play for everything

Canned up 7 quarts of red potatoes. Canned up 16 half-pints of spicy dilly beans.

I have more red potatoes -smaller to smallest ones- debating on canning beef stew. I have carrots and onions from the garden I can add in.

Goat milk yogurt is likely thinner than cows milk yogurt so it is likely drinkable. You could always add a little goat milk to thin it out. Also, adding lemon juice to milk will cause some curdling to occur but is similar to buttermilk and you can use it as a substitute for buttermilk in baking.

Can you press charges?

store bought yogurt is made of little milk and corn starch. it is always better to make yogurt at home.
I once bought some blueberry yogurt instead of plain by mistake. Both labels are a blue color, and I didn't read it. I needed the plain as the starter to make my own.

I figured I could just scrape the yogurt off the top, since it was "fruit on the bottom" but when I read the ingredients, there were NO live cultures! It was milk, sugar, fruit, and gelatin! That is NOT yogurt!

The goat yogurt I buy is very thick.
Kiefer is the drink that is like thin yogurt.
