What did you do in the garden today?

Does anyone know if there's any way to color wood naturally without chemicals or paint. I know that you can color eggs and cloth using herbs and onion skins but I don't know if it's weather proof. I'm open to any ideas that anyone might have. Please let me know what you think.
From husband:

use a colored wood. For example “Purple Heart” wood, etc. but, UV light will bleach out the color. But a pressure washer or sander will refresh the color bc top layer is removed.

Natural veg/flower dyes, but will need to be reapplied bc of UV rays. And wood will naturally grey out.

Add a “mordant” which helps set any dye.

Beware of “natural”….bc cadmium (as an example) is natural, but don’t use it 🤣 it’ll kill ya!

Now he’s talking too fast for me to type….but did also mention rusty nails for a rust orange color.

in a @gtaus thread someone mentioned rusty nails in vinegar if I remember well.

Thanks for the shout out. The rusty nail stain idea was from member @McChooky on the Show Me Your Pallet Projects thread...

An old jar filled with rusty nails filled with apple cider vinegar. The longer it sits the better it will look .Strain it [using a coffee filter] before using it to get dirt and debri out.You can use vinegar by itself which is darker or add rusty nails to give it an orange red tint.

Here is a picture posted by @McChooky using that rusty nail stain which I thought looked really nice...

I watered and noticed I have an Armenian cucumber sprout. I beefed up security with an upside down tomato cage wrapped in chicken wire to keep the wild birds away from it until it’s too big for them to damage easily. That’s it for me today, I hurt my back somehow and while I’m better than yesterday I’m taking it easy until the weekend.

Ditto here.

I took some ibuprofen, somewhat reluctantly. While the pain abatement is nice, I worry that the lack of pain might make me move "the wrong way" and do more damage.

I'm not as bad: Completely lost my sense of smell for about 2 weeks, but until today, I cannot smell as good as before. Occasionally smell something wired that doesn't exist.
Yes! I have the same problem. My sense of smell works but definitely not as good as before. I caught the bad, Delta strain of Covid in Sept 2020. Sickest I've been in my adult life, I think. Couldn't even lift my head off the pillow for several days. I had long Covid after that for about 2 months. Got better over the holidays and then came down with Covid again in January 2021 but it was super mild. More like the common cold. Still, from September until February or March, I had zero sense of smell. I don't remember any particular weird smells like gas or diesel when it came back... But my DH is super sensitive about smells. Most of the time he can smell something (animals, candles, garbage, etc) and says it's really strong but I can only barely smell it.

I haven't had Covid again since that time. I rarely get sick or the sniffles. Usually allergies for a day or two, if I do. But I take a lot of vitamin supplements for inflammation, antioxidants, etc... Vitamin D3 + Zinc are supposed to be virus killers. I take them religiously, along with Quercetin, Astaxanthin, NAC, Berberine, and Fish Oil.

Thank you everyone for the information and ideas. I will try to get some rusty nails. I had forgotten about the rusty nails working. If I knew that there was a use for rusty nails I would have saved all of the ones that I picked up out of our yard.
I use rusty nails and water for chloritic plants that are struggling to uptake iron. Just spray it on the foliage

What did you do in your garden today?

I picked a bunch of Rattlesnake green beans and Cherokee wax beans, a few tomatoes, three eggplants, some broccoli shoots, and jalapenos. Pretty happy with today's harvest!

My green peppers, red peppers, ghost peppers and jalapenos are budding today, herbs are looking "ok"
