What did you do in the garden today?

The miniature red supermarket potatoes that I planted in perlite sprouted. I was worried that I planted them too deep. I put a half inch pvc pipe under the lid on one end to allow the rainwater to drain off and to let it breathe. I have been taking the cover off in the day when it's sunny and putting it back on at night...................... :frow

I am using Master Blend Hydroponic tomato fertilizer solution, and I keep 3 inches of it in the container's bottom filled at all times. I pour a gallon of new solution in daily to keep it from stagnating.

The first 3 pictures above are the holy basil. Fennel. And the last one is the old flower seeds that I didn't think would sprout because they were not only old but they were left outside and flooded I don't know how many times.
I've sprouted some of the seeds you sent me too! 😁 I'll put them in their permanent home around early April

We lost another giant limb off that dogwood... It's probably 20 ft long and 8" in diameter to give you a sense of how massive it was... It landed on our chainlink fence. Thankfully not the house.

If that tree wasn't so pretty and providing critical shade, I'd cut it down. This is the 4th or 5th time we've had huge chunks of it come down and nearly cause serious damage. The base of that tree is probably 2 ft in diameter so it's quite large. Lost half of it to a lightning strike a few years ago... It seems to have undermined the strength of the remaining half. Dogwood wood is notoriously weak as it is....

To be fair, that wind is gusting around 40mph which is really high for here....

This (below) is when it was struck by lightning. One of the big thick sections that was left on the left side is what just came down tonight...

I met with my neighbor to discuss gardens and my starting some seeds for her. She offered to pay me, but I said no. She said, "Well, we can pay for the supplies." Nope, I have them already, and they were next to free for me.

He husband piped up with, "Well, we have to pay you something. Or I'll come over and break one of your toes!"
:lau

Ok... maybe you can bring me something chocolate from your next trip to visit grandkids.

OK... This wind has started FIFTY FOUR freaking wild fires in our state already.... Crazy.

That's insane about the fires. We had 2 enormous Sycamore trees in our front yard and we were celebrating Easter, I had just gotten the grandkids out from under them and a big branch came down and landed right where they were just sitting. That's why I said we're going solar for all the good that's done us. The public utilities commission is supposed to stop PGE from jacking up the rates but they have already done 6 in the last 2 years I think. I was so happy to see those trees go because another branch came down and I was in bed and I felt it lift the house off the foundation and back down. There's always a consequence for doing what appears to be the right thing though. How big are your holy basil plants
