What did you do in the garden today?

I thought bottle gourd is ornamental, lol.

You can eat it. It tastes kind of like courgette. It can be used as an aubergine replacement too, because it sucks all the flovours, like a sponge, like an aubergine. It is a traditional holiday food. We call it “qara”. You eat them young, before the outside becomes hard. It’s also possible to eat the leaves in soups and stir fry.

I don't know how much will get done in the garden this weekend. Yesterday was a get together with other Michigan BYC people. Today will be hot and humid. We might be pulling our first box of honey from our hives and extracting.

That will be a new endeavor for us! Hopefully, we can contain the (possible) mess!

I’m way behind on this thread. Heatwave over. We were treated to much cooler temperatures for a couple of days. I wasn’t able to get the corn patch prepped. Too hot for that. Just keeping the chickens cool was tough enough. My 7+ y.o. RIR hen finally succumbed to the heat. She was quite a hefty girl at near 10 pounds. Digging a hole deep enough to bury her was a struggle yesterday in the humidity. The temperatures are creeping back up so I’m hoping to get caught up on the weeding and grass mowing today. Tomorrow has to be a shopping and cleaning day. The temperature will be climbing to near 90F but drop a little to the lower 80’s for the test of the week. My red leaf lettuce is doing great in this heat. I’ll be picking some this morning. The pea vines are loading up and the wild black raspberries are ripening.

I did something yesterday to my already bum knee and now it’s limp time for me. 😔
Our electric fence in chicken yard fried an armadillo last night 😳
I didn’t know it could do that.
Sorry for your knee.
My e net fence fried a big toad once, I felt bad. A white tail doe got her head stuck, twisted and strangled. Her meat didn't go to waste. She didn't damage the fence.

Theses fences are pretty durable. We think it climbed over one pole bc it was down. It probably got zapped then. And started running and got caught on other side.
I’ve had a cat run straight thru it and out 😂.

Cat's, squirrels, rabbits jump right through. One year a group of chicks followed their lead at 4 wks.

Ground hog got tangled up and tore a hole. Before I came back with a pew pew

FWIW, that whipped cream also has sucralose in it which is another form of sugar....
After looking at that ingredient list I cringed. The fact that a company can make that and call it a food. Ugh. It's not fair to consumers.

I'm exhausted. Saw a giant rat run by the garage last night. Setting up more traps!

I've caught two opossums in the last week with the live trap.

Catching plenty of gophers in the orchard.

Letting my broody out of jail today. Fingers crossed that she's over it.

Tomorrow I go to work on a project in Los Banos. Not looking forward to being in the hot sun for two days away from home.

Today I will plant pumpkins and be done planting for summer. Going to prune the blackberries today as well.
