What did you do with your flock today?

I cleaned the main waterer, it was getting green inside. I scraped the A-frame roost, threw some straw in the run, and shared a corn cob. Happy birds!

Yeah, the guy said they do. Crazy, right!? I need to look it up. Maybe it goes into soup or something?:idunno I think you could probably make tea with it, but stinging nettle stew doesn’t sound good for your digestion. 😝
Nettles cook up similar to spinach and the privates are gone. I read that t they can be strong tasting but are very healthy for you.

We are 8 weeks old today. We decided to serenade our human with adult voices that sound like puberty is in full swing. We have discovered our attitudes and know we can get rid of our human if we threaten to bite.

We are mad cuz she cut us off treats temporarily to see if we had nutritional deficiencies or just growing up issues.

She did finally build us a house. We guess we can keep her around.

The Chickens.

It's been a while since I popped in, but it's been a busy summer at work!

We are having the yearly heat wave that comes in September before we start having temps that are more Fall-like, so the chickens are hot and fed up with 105-degree weather. Because of the hot summer (hottest on record apparently), many of the runs and coops have maintenance needs that we have not fixed, so I have chickens running around my backyard making the most of their freedom. :p

Most of my flock is at some stage in their molts. Few eggs with nests ontop of coop again. Had a good case of mites due to feral broodies. Think I have it under con -haha- trol.
They are staying cool up the mountain with my son. I am sick and tired of being hot and sweaty down the mountain and enjoy my son and chicken visits.
