What did you do with your flock today?

I am so excited…my awesome husband found YupYup a few friends! Unfortunately they are Nigerian goats and he will be a lonely Pygmy goats. Nigerian is the breed I wanted to start off with but it’s ok! We have 2 boys coming that are fixed and are only 2 days younger than him and a one girl. The girl though is 9 months old and pregnant by like 2/3 weeks. So we will have more coming around the end of April. I’m excited my little guy will have friends!
You are going to be BUSY 🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐 🎄🎁🎁🎁🎅🤶Merry christmas!

O how fun! I want pygmies someday...lol. Nigerians are kinda perfect to me though ❤. Bet your kids are going to adore the babies when your girl births! My kids used to hug, kiss and cuddle them. Dressed them up and everything 🤣

Have fun with your new babies and share lots of pics!

My youngest has been leash training Mina...I'll try to get pics when the weather's good again 😀

Everyone has been busy! I just don’t have the bandwidth right now to keep up! We’ve had a bunch of rain (1.6”) the last 48 hours (most of it yesterday) that has matched my mood. I’m glad Asha is no longer sick and miserable but I miss her…so the gloomy cold weather feels fitting. Friday I “thought” I had everyone covered for the coming rain and discovered I was very wrong by mid morning Saturday. I didn’t secure the tarp well enough and when I went to check on the quail I found one of the coops bottom level full of water and their food had turned to mushy mud. So in the downpour, I was out rehanging tarps and moving quail to keep them dry until the rain stopped for long enough to clean it out. Sooo drenched after that 30 min chaos, we also had to bring Nohope, Sia, Ruby, Spider, and JoJo in to dry them off and warm them up. Sia and the Polish are classic doofus vaulted skull chickens so they were drenched! JoJo was my favorite drowned chicken…he looked super pathetic 😆

There were a few feathers missing so I added some Hen Healer and then decided he might like some help so it doesn’t appeal to mean Pecky Beckys! He doesn’t seem appreciative though! 😁

While they were inside drying off, the rain quit so I went back out and made the kids help me clean out the quail coop. It was the MOST disgusting thing to deal with! Two to 4 inches thick of wet pine shavings mixed with wet quail feed and poop. Like super awful sewer smelling cement mix. They were pretty thrilled to get fresh dry bedding and feed. By 5 pm yesterday I looked like a drowned rat and smelled like a sewer and outhouse, Super awesome!

So today I spent time recovering from yesterday and watching football. I did get couch attention from the jealous dog since no chickens were in the house! Such an ignored and abused doggie!

That sounds like one hell of a day you had! I just love his hairdo though! It shows off his little red devil horns so well 🤣.
The things we do for our birds eh? I don't know if your set up will let you, but turning the dirt helps keep the water from pooling. The deeper it's turned, the better. The loose dirt can absorb a lot of water and gravity makes any pooling happen underground instead of making a muddy surface. Your surface will be damp but not soaked. Guessing your dirt's like ours and gets so hard packed and dry that it repels water instead of absorbing it.

We have roofs that keep things mostly dry, but I still turn to clean the runs. I think it keeps the dirt healthy too. The first bit is hard work, but over time your dirt gets light and easy to work. I don't know anyone else who does this though so maybe I'm nuts. The chickens sure love it though! They bug hunt while I work. 🤣🤣🤣

Anyway, I'm sure you'll find a good solution. Your such a good momma ❤️

Such good kids to help out! Hope you all got a warm treat at the end of the day!

Ooh! He looks like you've mortally offended him with that hair band! 🤣 🤣 and I love your puppy 's eyeliner! Looks just like my best friend's dog.

Well today the vinyl siding finally arrived to weatherproof the coop. I went out to put it up at 2pm and Pru was wheezing really badly. Ì' d popped out with some greens at 1pm-ish and she was absolutely fine. Not sure what's going on as she has no other symptoms as yet, eating like a pig, running around (despite wheezing horribly), no nasal, beak or eye discharge, no face or joint swelling, not extending her neck or coughing and sneezing. My last flock worm count was under 50 so I doubt gapeworm but I will consider worming for it. I've started her on enrofolaxin tonight in case it's M.gallisepticum and I'm going to nebulise her in the morning if she needs it. I'm just praying it's not bird flu.
By coincidence, some immune boosting echinacea arrived for them today, along with a vitamin complex so they'll all be getting that in the morning! I also got a new coop cleaner that's supposed to repel mites, lice and flies. I could smell it before I opened the package - just like peppermint candy canes. Yummy!

That I am! I’m already crazy busy but it’s ok! I hate down time. Merry Christmas to you as well!

oh that would be fun! I’m hoping she waits to the end of April cause I don’t want it cold for them. I read some horror stories of things going wrong with them giving birth in the winter. As much as YupYup hates it, he is leash trained 🤣. He didn’t have much of a choice though. I’m sure when he gets older it won’t go as easily. I will for sure share pictures! I can’t wait to see yours!

@TropicalBabies I'm so sorry bout your cross beak boy...it's so hard having to make that decision and follow throug! Hugs to you as you go through this!!!

@kurby22 we've had tons of rain here too...today is the first time the sun has been out in like 2 weeks I think!!!
I do the deep litter method so all the rain we've gotten has run into the run and all that has gotten far too wet for anything! Talk bout smell! I feel ya!!! I keep flipping it to try and let it dry out, adding more pine shavings and first Saturday lime and Sweet PDZ. Very frustrating!
Your lil man looks like he adores his new hairdo!!! 🤣

@Shetland lover I do hope Pru is all right!
