What did you do with your flock today?

I made them a heat cave, using some wire, a sunbeam heating pad, a tea towel covered in glad wrap to protect, and used duct tape to put it all together. It’s shaped like that cause they are getting older and bigger, but when they were newly hatched...1 week ago it was flatter...no pasty butt and these chicks have been very quiet and content, no peeping, and they go to sleep when it gets dark.
I always used heat lamps before and my chicks were always very loud. This set up is skookum, I’ll never go back.
Yeah we had them inside for the first 4 weeks so we aren't too worried at this point about heat and the brooder plate is working fine. In the winter we use it as a heater to keep the water from freezing. Good setup!

I have done the same stay on sunbeam heating pad no duct tape

Just proves even us old gals can learn new ways..
I have learned many new things from the site
Agreed with that one Penny! So many things have added up to me being a semi clever chicken keeper, sometimes :hmm, most times :D!! it certainly would not be as enjoyable w/o this site for sure. Many more losses of chicks, chickens, time, food and sanity!!!

What is this one? Thread sexing?!! I'm interested... 🤔 I still have latecomers hatching in my one and only bator. Could be 100%! 1 egg will tell. I have almost all chicks sold- to good homes!!!- already and plenty orange babys!!! YEEEHAAA!!!

So thread a needle black thread, Hold it over each egg..
If the needle goes back and forth it is roo, circles it is a pullet. I fired up my little bator
