What did you do with your flock today?

Yesterday was miserable outside! The ducks loved it though. They spent 6 hours in the pond. We even had 50+ mile hour winds. It wasn’t expected. Got a notification at like 2:30pm that there would be high winds starting at 3. Which it did, until like 5. Blowing so hard I thought maybe my chickens fence was gonna topple over. Poor chickens where huddled together but I know they weren’t getting a direct wind hit. The ducks where in the pond like it was nothing. So I went to check on them too and I got down to their level and there was no wind. It was a nice break for me because I had sticks and leafs and all kinds of stuff flying into my face. The pallets are blocking a lot of wind. Today I’m going to be putting up the wind blocker for the chickens. Even though they have a somewhat wind breaker, it is more under their coop than into the run.

We had the same thing here yesterday! Now we got cooler temps.
I still hadn't gotten my wind breaker up still...no wonder my d'uccles act like they are being blown away!

We have cooler temps too today. I’m glad I’m not the only one without the wind breaker up! I wasn’t expecting it or I would have went and done it. It’s gonna be sunny here today though so hopefully it won’t be so bad when I hang mine up. How high did your winds get?

Pretty high...but between 3 grandsons, sleep exhausted and baby chicks and more bout to hatch I just existed yesterday so not sure? Lol?
My DH said "my socks still somewhere in all these clothes?" I said yes I'm gonna do it All today! He said "u got too many chicks to so anything else"...
Glad I didn't tell him I was trying to get more lolol!

Hahaha that sounds like me all the time. I have like 5 laundry baskets that need put away. Granted I just did 3 laundry baskets full of laundry. I just hate doing laundry because my kids just go up and throw their clean cloths everywhere. Well the younger 3 girls do. My oldest just puts cloths on and if I tell her she can’t wear it (like a tank top in the fall or a sweater in winter, it goes right into the dirty cloths. 🤦‍♀️

I want more chicks! My husband would kill me right now 🤣. I would be like you though and not say anything until they were here. “Oh look babe, a stork brought me little chicks!” I told him I considered the same day we went to get the ducks, prior to him saying let’s get the coop done and get the ducks today, was to get ahold of her and arrange for me to get them. He works better under pressure and kinda forces him to do it. He just glared at me 🤣

Ditto bout the DH! Sort of how I got the 2 hatches right now that are staggered lol

Our kids are all grown up so I really have no excuse bout the clothes...I just got so distracted by literally everything and I end up half doing it all cause I just can't stay focused and keep on task since my health went down hill. So hard to believe I used to be the queen of multi-tasking!!!

@FBMcrazy8 goats and horses really do great together. We never had pygmy goats but we did have a couple Nigerian dwarfs and they did great with the horses. I worried that the one boy goat with huge horns would accidentally hurt a horse but it never happened. Our horses did accidentally kill a chicken once by stepping on it, and one mare broke another mares jaw when an excited stray spooked them (she was spinning and trying to kick the dog)...but overall our horses peacefully shared space with big n small goats, chickens, ducks, geese, dogs etc.
Congratulations on the new ducks and the pen...your new babies are going to be sooo happy in there!

@kurby22 Aaaaa! NoHope is to die for! Such a beautiful sweetheart 😍

@PopoMyers beautiful chickens and I'm so jealous of your Alaska cruise ❤️. I told my husband I'd love to move to Alaska and we ended up in Arizona 🤣. I think all he heard was the first and last a's!

@Gammas Bearded Babies you've gotten so much good advice so I'm just going to wish you luck with Joey. He is one handsome boy. Just beautiful ❤️

@TropicalBabies I love your rooster flock❤️. Ive never had one n think it's time I do. Now where to put it.....🤔

Well, we're safely home. We got in late last night. It is good to be home!❤️

My house is thick with dust, two of my doves died and two chickens while I was gone. I lost Lunatwo and Lunatoc, Marshmellow and Granny Weatherwax. I checked everyone by flashlight last night and saw the doves cage had almost no food at all. I'm so so sad about the doves. They're the gentlest soul's. My friend had called and told me when it happened and I refused to think about it, but now I'm home and can process it. Granny and Marshmallow were old...granny was ancient and Marshmallow was nearly featherless and deeply tired when I got him. He looked fully recovered, but I'm not shocked by him passing. But the doves!
Ugh.
I made a map showing every animal and food store, water, plants etc. But it is a lot of daily work and I was gone a long time. He forgot them once too often.
Anyways...I know my friend tried hard and overall everything looks good.
And Schultz is alive and looks well...he was the one I was worried about.

A lady who bought some birds from me before called while I was gone and wants more birds. So I set up the incubator last night and brought in something like 16 eggs from one of the coops. But the humidity wasn't rising so I plugged in the other incubator and will have to take a closer look at the one.

Hubby was flooding the indoor pond while I was gone and not noticing so there's some bad damage to our floor. Poor hubby was trying to be helpful and refilled it this morning before work...I walked past the giant spreading puddle and thought omg...lol.

Our duck Peeky decided a late in the year nest would be a good idea so she's gone broody...no idea how many eggs she has under her but boy she looks happy 🤣

Todays going to be busy busy busy. I have tons of pictures to share but haven't really looked at them myself yet. We had a problem with my oldests 14 yr old dog while we were at Mammoth Lake, so we never actually made it into Yosemite Valley. 😭 On the good side, they have an amazing vet in Mammoth and Billy is just fine now. I had no idea that the change in altitude can be hard on old dogs. He had four seizures on Sunday and we thought for sure we were going to lose him. We're all so happy he's ok and waggy tailed again.

Heres my youngest playing monkey in the forest at Mammoth.

Thank you! It’s good to hear. I’m really wanting the Nigerian dwarfs. Our fear was going to be horses trampling the goats. Until we get some better coverage I don’t see the chickens mingling with them. And as far as the ducks go….yeah….I’m not even sure about them. I would cry if they left me. I could clip their wings but I’m not even sure that would stop them from wondering.

Oh no! I'm so sorry you came home and had lost some!!! I'm glad Schultz is doing well though! Sounds like a lot of catch-up to be had but I'm sure it's good to be back home!
