What did you do with your flock today?

How are you feeling and how is the bite? 😬
I'm feeling great now. Bite itself still hurts, but I feel healthy again and that's what I needed most. ❤️ I guess the bite itself will take a while to actually heal up...it's kinda weird looking now 🤣...but it is healing not getting worse. I had no idea a bleeping bug bite could make you feel so damn sick like that! Hate to say it, but I'll be killing every recluse and black widow I see from now on. They're now in the same category as rattlesnakes in my eye. I thought the bite itself was what you worry about...in hindsight it's how sick it makes the rest of you feel.
Surprisingly it wasn’t too cold this morning. It only got down in the 20s with wind chill at night/early morning. When it’s been down into the teens. AND no wind. The wind makes such a big difference. I love the “warm” snow. Basically when there is like a layer of snow everywhere but everything is calm. No wind, no breeze, just still air. I don’t know if that makes any since but anyway….
Warm snow....I do remember what that's like! Those days are delightful!
Hey everyone. I've also been reconfiguring my run but work ground to a halt today due to excessive rain and tonsillitis. The ground is really soaked and muddy and everyone had mud socks before bed - except Gladys, my Shetland hen with her naked feet. I tried to keep Clara in most of the day as it was cold as well as wet and she's down to half a dozen feathers. Ferdy tried to tidbit my wild robin today when he landed amongst the flock. Robin was like, 'nope!' Ferdy was watching chicks on YouTube last night and making mamma hen noises at them. He is such a funny little roo!

Everyone on here seems to be having such a rough time lately (me included) so I thought I might share what someone said to me recently:

" We can't be okay all the time, and we can't always force ourselves to act as if we are. Sometimes we just have to accept that we are human, and tired, and maybe a little sad or poorly or hurting, and we need to give ourselves the loving care we would to any small creature in need. You deserve rest, and care, and kindness by the simple fact that you are human. You don't have to earn it, and you don't have to make up for it after the fact"

I think there's some wisdom there.

P.s. can someone please tell me how to 'love' posts, I'm sick of just being able to use the 'like' button when i mean 'love'!
Aw...that is lovely ❤️
Finally collected the pictures. Sorry in advance if I’ve posted these already.

You take some really good pictures! That's a very colorful flock! Poor Molly...she looks like a very wise bird with that face though doesn't she? And Beigies still such a looker! ❤️
Thanks, took a couple hours, but the hog ring pliers sure made it simple. Better than cutting pieces of wire and winding it around. Your profile does not tell where you are. Must be in the upper latitudes like WA.
I'm in AZ actually. Moved here from WA though 😃. Been a desert rat for 27 years now though.

All 400+ hog rings are installed, holding the 150' fencing seam together. Yay! Just one more gate for DH to make and this latest change will be done. What's your next coop change in configuration? Never ending, 😂. Maybe we'll get the garlic planted today. Gets dark before 5. At least it's sunny and dry, mid 40's to 50 highs this week. Christmas is in 40 days!
I still have to do my garlic too. Thats a bunch of hog rings! Wow!

So I checked on my mealies and did a pupa search. No pupa yet and the mealies are huge! There were about ten half eaten mealies in there. I'm guessing it was about moisture as I was minimal in how much veggie I gave trying to avoid fungus. But they did have moist apple core still in there. Any thoughts for me @TropicalBabies ?
Or does it mean the type of dark beetle I have isn't a good candidate for a farm or or... something else?
There's one weird one I set its own little container thinking maybe it was about to pupate or maybe it's something else. Turns out it's something else...lol. Since I already have it set up and it seems to be thriving, I'm going to keep feeding it and see what it turns into.

Good morning and happy aloha Tuesday chicken & ducks + people.

The weather change looks delicious in photo. Those ducks could not be any cuter or look any happier, pretty sure ♡♡♡
Nice job on all the hard work @Popo & @fbm & @chicks.
I wish I had the room to continually work on coops etc but in this second i'm happy to not have another thing to do lol. 😊 would love photos!

Hows the chick hunt going miss @kurby and how is @Gammas?! You 2 have been quiet. I know busy but miss your 2cents.
It was kinda nice to see the snow but it just showed me that I do have a few more changes I have to make to my coop. The netting I have over the run, runs on the top of the house too. Well when the snow backed on the top of the netting, it pulled it down and some snow got into the coop from the front ventilation. Not like on the floor of it but the 2x4 under the ventilation that is holding the wall. Sometimes the chickens roost up there. I have to find a way to keep snow out but continue with the ventilation. I have seen some things about using furnace filters.

I’m glad the bite is getting better!! I don’t kill very many spiders but the brown recluse is on the list of dead spiders list.

I love the warm snow! That is the best!

That’s a great quote!

If you’re on a phone, hold down the “like” button and more options should pop up. If you’re on a desktop then I think you just need to hover the mouse over it? I don’t know if it’s different in other devices.
Thank you, FrankieDoodle! It works!

Your chickens are so pretty, such lovely colours and feather patterns! All my flock are shades of black, grey and white at the moment, I'd love a chocolate pekin or a red laced bird of some kind but i just can't have any more right now.☹️

Well, they look like mealies... I mean even mine get a little weird looking off and on. I'd let it ride and see what happens. Pretty sure your chickens will be happy to eat your experiment no matter what and being that you risked your life for these...
I'm really happy to hear you are feeling physically better. Hope the bite locations don't give you any troubles. What a NASTY BUG. I am not a squisher of garden spiders but B Widow and B Recluse I do absolutely. Working in the shop yesterday I had a healthy paranioa of toxic bugs forsure. 😕

Cleaned my fridge this morning getting ready for Thanksgiving. Our egg bin is finally refilled after our trip. Hubby was glad - we haven't bought eggs in years and the current price was a bit of a shock! I had 2 grown men caring for everything that could have collected eggs while we were gone...instead we ended up with a nearly empty egg bin and a bunch of chicks 🤣😖. He was going to buy some, looked at the price and decided maybe collecting eggs is would have been a good idea! I'm glad our girls keep laying.
Hubby runs around singing a count down to "turkey week" here...."4 more days til it's turkey week" 🤣❤. Hows everyone's T-day prep going?

Welp. It's Wednesday! 🌈😊
Not much to report chickenwise, been focused on bags and stands. I did feel good getting to the scraping of boards yesterday as I had taken a day off from (obviously💩💩💩💩💩) so had a bit of a stinky pike up of sorts. The main coop is crowded and I have some poopers!

Been leaving AJs gate open and it has really helped with the crowd. The day b4 yesterday my little, little Buff B found some trouble and had a bloodied neck. Don't know if he got stuck or bullied or attacked. DH and I had been installing a new radiator on my truck and well, I did not hear anything... felt bad to not be there for (him?) ☹ He cleaned up well though, I could not find the source. I applied a topical to the area and the beeper has been bouncing around since 👍. Other two sticktight flea chicks have been fine with no more signs of a re-infestation but I don't think I will get away that easy.... so, TBC. 👁👁👁

Today is going to be more of the same. Painting, sewing, finishing stand & starting another. Oh, and haircut for me! Such a treat 😁!!
By replacing the big stand w/ a little one I did get to take home some surplus after bringing fresh bags, though they had done a good job of thinning 👍👍 . Next instal is Friday! Also bought groovy donation boxes so cleaning up my act! Still excited about my project and expect I will be adding noticeable $ to their accounts soon 🤞🤞🤞 and I have kept about 150+ bags out of the landfill to date!

Oh no! Turkey day... 😖
Last year I made a nice salmon but this year DH is ono for turkey. I usually feel up to the task but rarely till the last minute the last 5 years or so. Normally it is still pretty hot and well, baking and cooking in a small kitchen that heats the house further plus all of the cleaning and packaging.... well, the best part is sharing a couple big fat plates with my neighbors who don't cook. They are always so grateful and gushing that it makes the effort worth it. ♡♡♡
