What did you do with your flock today?

We got home last night. The kids did such a good job taking care of everything for us. For some reason I'm just beat so going to take some quiet time today.
I did lose about six peaeggs while I was gone. Forgot to tell my youngest that the eggs can't be turned small end up so when she flipped the eggs she was doing small end, then big end instead of side to side. My fault though for not thinking to be more specific. Luckily the only eggs I'm sure died were mine and not friends. At any rate, it was a lot of work for the kids and they just did wonderful.

Was lucky this morning and had my camera handy to catch a cute moment. Went to take Goose potty before my morning coffee and Mina greated us with a tail wiggle and a headbutt for Goose. View attachment 3550931

Goose is a champ to take that kind of goat attention. Are they pals or just a one way friendship? Nice spot, I can see why you are happy to be home ♡ No place like it.
Wonderful to have such good reliable helpers. I'm a little happy jealous . Like most of us, I too will never, ever be able to vacation more than 30 minutes away from my gang, ain't "pet ownership" grand?

Today I was on my hands and knees chasing baby chicks again ‍♀.
I like incubating chicks SO. MUCH. BETTER. I was able to corral them all a little faster this time, so there. I promptly fed them more mealworms to show them who is boss again.
Let 2 broodies out of jail last eve and placed on roost. So far... think we are ok.
Scraped boards, scrubbed and filled waterers. Temps in the mid 80's.

Pretty lily. My cat leaves his 4 legged toys all over the yard for me to find. Just a little cautious about feeding them to the chickens, as I don't know how long they'd been dead. Would you think it would be ok? He catches a lot of voles.

Don't! That's how we lost Sylv. He ate a dead mouse that had been poisoned. We hadn't laid poison, it was a neighbour. Rats and mice can take 7 to 10 days to die from rodenticides, no telling how far they've travelled in that time. Add to that the growing resistance to most commonly used rodenticides, rodents can even act as reservoirs and make predators sick in that way.

So many pretty babies! That one little lavender? baby almost looks like it has wings on its feet! And yup...I'm also a fan of those spangled babies and the incredible up dos

I HATE leaving my babies! I'd almost rather not go away.

They're pals Goose hasn't quite figured out the best way to play with Mina yet, but hes sure trying. He boxes her with his paws and she butts him. One of our dogs, Charlie, likes to do drive by type chasing. He swings in a big circle and rushes past her bumping her with his butt as he goes. Then she'll go into spasms of twisty joy, rushes in a circle and rears at him with no actual headbutt. Goose watches and tries to join, but hes such a clumsy baby still so he irritates her more then pleases just yet. So he gets some actual headbutts from her.
We're going into the over 100° weather now though so catching the animals at play gets rarer.

Not sure what I'm going to do for vacation times down the road. I've mostly relied on neighbors and then kids over the years. But kids are almost gone and age and illness have taken away too many of my neighborhood friends. Not all of them though

Yay! Well, you'll chuckle at this. Pikake was the escapee that got clipped. On the other hand, Houdini the roo was out this morning! Are the sports camps day camps? I remember fondly the girl scout camps I participated in. Your cool evenings are a nice way to end a hot day. Used to spend an occasional summer there with uncles and aunts.

Haha Houdini wanted to live up to his name instead of letting Pikake do it!

Yeah, the sports camps are day camps, mostly 1/2 day 8-12. She is looking forward to the school district sponsored camp, as it’s 4 nights with her two best friends…and her Girl Scouts camping trip which is two nights. Camps like that are memories that last a lifetime, so I’m glad she gets to have the opportunities! It’s hard letting her go on overnight trips though! I worry the whole time!

Yes, these cool nights are glorious and so unusual, I’m soaking them up!! Supposed to hit 100 next weekend So I will enjoy them even more this week, knowing what’s coming!

They are so gorgeous!! Pru doesn’t need to be jealous, she’s a beautiful girl too!
