What did you do with your flock today?

If I mentioned this anywhere else, people would think/know that I'm crazy.

My chickens were down in the compost area next to the woods, and I brought my camping recliner chair down there. With a beer and a little 1/4 size Iron Man guitar I bought at Goodwill for 8 bucks. I played classic rock songs for my chickens for about an hour.

At first they acted confused. And then they kicked back and relaxed, listening to the tunes. Maybe it's crazy, but I think the music soothed them.
Awww, such a wonderful parent. You've got them hooked.

So much easier than starting from scratch. And we got to get rid if a bunch of junk too. Bonus. Think it was 40- 50 yr old orange shag carpet in it. Lots of yuck (and spiders) but it sure has potential.
Good bones, it'll be such a lovely getaway! Orange shag! Reminds me of the olive shag in my brother's room. 60's colors for sure, along brown and yellow tupperware.

The kids got some ground up raw pumpkin guts, and strawberry trimmings. Moved their water bowls to an easier place to fill them, so I don't have to go inside, and just fill them through the fence, bonus, they're now in the shade under the trees, where the chooks like to relax in the warm afternoons we've been having. The lilies are in their full glory right now. Love when there's color outside. Also looks better without chickens eating plants and scratching out dirt baths in the beds.

Thanks! Oh, really? I think we warm up slower than ya'll. Just getting into constant mid-70's as of the 22nd. Been colder, with heat spikes off and on. Only now the squash, cucumbers and beans have more than 2 leaves. Finally getting strawberries, and the other berries should be ripening soon. I'll be busy spending hours picking those next month for about 3 weeks.

Absolutely beautiful! ❤️❤️❤️ I have quite a few roses but getting them to bloom consistently has been a journey. Well...at least I get them to survive consistently now 🤣😁❤️. My oldest is about 6-7 years old now. But my blooms still feel precious. We have a rose garden in one of our parks here and when the roses are thriving there it's a real treat to visit. Unfortunately the last time I went, about half the roses had died. They still had maybe a hundred of them and the scent in the early morning is heavenly.
I can only imagine the challenges you face growing roses in Arizona! They like a good amount of water and don't like it too hot. I'm amazed you can grow any at all. Although I imagine some of the single flowered and wilder varieties will do well?

Once it cools down some late today the two of us will venture out with a few hen saddles and install them and watch the pullets try to get them off. I've watched them try and out run them like they are a rooster and then try and back out of them. After a bit they will accept them and go on about there business without raw meat being expose on their back side. I counted about 6 this morning during visual inspection. They are free ranging so either we have to pick them off the roosts or around a water fountain or feeder. These pullets are held quite often and sweet talked to so they have very little fear of us. Some of the pullets will even jump up on the John Deere with me looking for a treat that they seldom get. It's to hot for cracked corn.
My Pru desperately needs to wear her saddle but has so far managed to wiggle out of it 6 times! I have no clue how she's managing it. She just has feather stubble in front of her tail. I don't even think she's the favourite of my two cockerels, just the slowest hen!

I know you are waiting for that magical moment when they do. I did the lazy way and let momma take care of all the details. She brooded them in one of the nesting boxes, and on the floor of the coop. I hung water and put food in there for them. They did field trips with her to see the world. So cute to watch.
I agree wholeheartedly. It IS incredibly cute ❤🐔🐣🐤🐥 It's such a joy watching Pru care for chicks and introduce them to the world.
