Happy 4th of July!!
Coffee is a perking, day is beautiful!

Made 2 trips, 5 kitties, 1 dog. Yesterday's coop progress.
Doors and windows screened and mounted.

1st shotty coat of primer- gotta quickly finish my painting, add roosts and go rescue 33 chickens. Technically I should only rescue 24. Hope and her brood are still in a nest box for a little while longer (6) guess I gotta find one of those , friends hen is in a cage and the 27 can squeeze in I guess. I'll probably add another roost in somewhere depending how they sort out.

Yippee Blink! I can spy on my chooks.

Last night was a total awesome zoo ♡ as the kitties played race track attack all night long, unless they were packed ontop of me resting that is. Anyone ever try sleeping in a soft single bed with 4 kitties? Glad they are having fun ♡ but I need coffee. Couldn't move, could not access blanket. Tuff stuff.

Lots and lots to do, but gotta do it. Firework display 1 block away from my house at the park.

I finally got some repairs made in the brooder coop house and am ready to move some of the larger ones out and some from the latest hatch in. Gave them some cantaloupe but they turned up there noses to it. I think they saw the watermelon come in the front door. They will get some once we finish the cantaloupe.

Your build is coming along fantastically! Those chickens have a spacious condo to call home. I can just see you all hemmed in by your kitties. Now that's love. Thank goodness you don't have any predators there. That changes the dynamic of everything.

I had to take another piece of string away from a pullet trying to eat it like a long worm. What is it with these pullets. They are well fed both feed and green grass but want junk to eat.

Try chasing them to get Styrofoam away. So.much.not fun.

These are ripening. Guess who gets all the imperfect ones? My chicklets, of course. Picked 4.5 lbs. today, just starting. The kids probably got more than half a pound. Also sprayed water all over their grassy area so they could cool off their feet. It was 82 today. Do firework noises set back their laying?

I set the cantaloupe peels out for them and they picked off every last bit of orange. They also ate up a half of a no taste honeydew, seeds were their favorite, cantaloupe ones too.

SOOO busy today. We had son’s basketball this morning at 8:30, ran errands till 2, got home and spent the next three hours cleaning, dealing with last minute chicken things, and taking apart, cleaning, and then battling to put back together the AC unit. SOOO frustrating to battle metal in an awkward space when it’s 108 outside. I spent a lot of time checking on the chickens too. Put out ice packs, bags of ice, and cooled off waterers for coops in the most sun. I feel so bad for the babies because they seem the least well adapted to the temps and they’re in a weird spot for heat. Then we did laundry, packed the kids suitcases, cleaned the guest bedroom, cleaned the kitchen, have a tutorial on chicken coops for the neighbor checking on them tomorrow night, and then cleaned the kitchen again after I tried to burn the house down We have all our foods we bought to take in the car and to the beach on the stove. I shoved the bag of watermelons to the back wall and the watermelon fell and apparently turned on a burner We got super lucky the Graham crackers took the brunt of the heat absorption, and we lost the marshmallows which had melted all over the burner. But otherwise okay. Cleaning it up sucked though, and we will have to buy more s’mores stuff haha.

Why does preparing for vacation take so much work??

Gotta watch those dangerous fruit! Glad it didn't catch fire. Have a great time!
