What did you do with your flock today?

Spent the last few days doing the deep clean at AJ's house. Made it to dh's refrigerator, micro and pantry last eve.
We are 5 days away from getting bombarded. I still have to finish our cottage and start the cabin clean and transport of babies. Oh, then vehicles....

Not looking forward to this at all. Last I heard, sister now has 7 people staying at the 1 bedroom cabin.... I'm like, hope you rent a van. This is the part I don't like about .... this. Lack of awareness, breaks, boundaries. The brother too went from 5 to 7 people. Cabin is best with 3-4 max. Ok, best with just 1... this one 😂😂😂😂

Hose.

In other words I feel your pain. Chickens are so relentless. The more you value your garden, the more relentless. I gave up and planted fruit trees. So far, it was a good call. I don't want to always be mad at my chickens.
I understand them wanting to explore I don’t get too upset. I plant mostly herbs and a a few vegetables. The chickens just like the cool soil so much. I made their own soil pile in a shaded area, obviously it’s not as luxurious as the ones in the garden 🤦‍♀️.

Chickens have been great. Today I go down the mountain to clean my coop and run along with garden, more windows and laundry etc. I'll be bringing babies down along with Cheepie, Blackie, Manono and a few young smart girls, so the grandkids can see their chickens while they are Here.
Looking forward to taking pressure off of mountain chicken shack as it really is too small for all of my gang. Sure young things will all enjoy being down with plenty room and bugs. At leat for awhile...

I have a similar system in my garden. Works beautifully until they get a taste for a particular plant. In my case, hosta and ferns.
I've now completely blocked access to two beds with black avian netting and iron stakes. It's practically invisible until you get up close and for the first time in 4 years I have hosta again! I plan to remove it in winter to allow them to clear it up for me.
I seriously appreciate the chickens clearing the beds for me.

Piggie gets to go to the vet again this morning. Got him into a harness last night as the sanctuary people suggested. Wow that was something else. Piggie was handled so gently...and he screamed and screamed. So we sat on the porch together after until we could both breathe easy again.View attachment 3596886Then I was able to pick him up without a panicky struggle from him. He spent the night inside so I wouldn't have to terrorize him at 4am to have him at the vets in time for his appointment. View attachment 3596887
It seems to have done him some good though, he's actually less afraid afterwards and spent some time at the front of the crate just watching me instead of staying as far back as he can. He got a little molasses bread to help him feel better too...wow he likes that stuff 😄
Awww, sweet Piggie :love He's starting to figure out you aren't like the others he may have encountered! Hope it goes well and he's making lots of positive progress!

That stresses me out just reading it! I am similar in not enjoying the chaos and lack of boundaries and awareness. Hopefully is goes very quickly and as smoothly as possible!!
