What did your chickens do today?

Mine followed a turtle across the yard

One of my roos (about 11 weeks old) spotted a wire hanging about 6 feet off the ground. He managed to get up onto the wire and started rocking back and forth. He looked like a little kid on a swing! It was cute but I took him down and moved the wire. He seemed a bit relieved lol. At first it looked like he was enjoying the new feeling but after a little bit he looked like he wanted it to stop lol.

My DH has the grill of his old truck hanging on the wall in our garage and Lucy spotted it and flew up but once she got there, couldn't figure out how to get back down. It's about ten feet up lol

I love all their names. It takes me a few weeks to put a name with a chick, but they sure do feel right when they are getting bigger. It took me forever to name one. It was so mischevious, and noisy and bossy and pushy and just was so interested in everything, always the one out first and jumping on things and investigating...I finally named it Smarty Pants...turned out to be a "Rooster"...that's a first time for us, we've been able to always get Hens, so I had no idea...it's amazing to me how much his personality soared before the hens...enjoy!

My 15 wk bantam cornish roo Bulldog found his voice this evening! It's worse than Hellion's and about 10 times louder.

Luckily I had my camera with me as I went to visit everybody.

Lol He looks freaky in this picture...also I've been noticing a lot of feathers in their run recently but when I check everybody looks just fine, no balding area's. What gives?

My 8 week old Lavender Ameraucanas went on their very first evening free range expedition. They seemed so happy hunting for bugs and eating greenery. When most of the way across the yard a cardinal decided to sing. The sound just unnerved them horribly. They got back to their run quite quickly. They were no trouble at all to get back to the run, later when it was close to sun down. These little birds have given us immense pleasure, and we are still months away from harvesting the first egg.
