My chickens greeted me with clucks, chirps and crows after my 5 day absence. lol I went on vacation and someone only came every 2 days to give them water and food. Don't worry I doubled up the food and waterers so they wouldn't run out....Though the person feeding them got their food and scratch mixed up so the feeders were filled with Scratch when I got home.

They were happy to get their feed back.

I usually put my hens back n there coop every night around 8 after they have run of yard all day. No problem they get a little scratch and will usually race me there. The last two nights we did not get home until a hour after dark. Went out to shut coop before going to bed. Walking out across our deck to shut them up the 1st night. I was half way across deck when I heard a bird as I was walking so I stopped. Heard it again so I turned around and there was my black sex link roasted on one of our patio chairs i walked right past her did not even notice her. Picked her up and placed her on roast no problem she seemed quite content. Came home the next night late again. This time I was expecting her not to be in coop. But his time she was roasted right next to our kitchen window so she could see in the house quite funny. It was like she expects to be tucked in at night.

I
The fox did kill them, just leaving behind piles of feathers. The fox only killed 2 chickens. One was an EE roo and the other was a New Hampshire hen. They were 2 of my favorite 3 birds. They all are locked in the coop right now and they hate it. They don't realize the danger of being out. I still have 29 chickens (counting my babies), 13 ducks, and 2 geese. My 3rd favorite, a friendly buff orpington keeps on flying over the wire from their perch to get out. I put her and the rest of the chickens in the new coop, where there's no perch yet. I am glad I trusted my gut. When I was ordering my chicks, I was debating getting a rooster or two. I already had one. I was going to have around 30 hens. I didn't want to get too many roosters because I also have a straight run cross. I decided to get two in case either one of them or my elder rooster died. I already miss having a rooster crow every morning. My rooster had quite the personality. I'm not even sure why I liked him. He ripped up hens and he didn't defend them. He still was probably my favorite chicken. I'm extremely glad that I have 2 more roosters with me right now. I hope I can find another one of him somewhere. If any of you have someone that looks like this and would ship him to me, that would be amazing.
I had one exactly like him. But I had to kill him when he put holes and bruises the size of golfballs in my lil bro's leg.

Last night, JamJam, 2yr old EE decided to perch in the young hens coop, 8month Light Brahmas and Plymouth Rocks. Not good! She's so mean. I had to let them out at 5:30a without her this morning as she was attacking all of them, She's such a freak! We had to get the fishing net to capture her out of that coop while she was screaming like we were killing her til she finally exhausted herself and put her on her own again. This time under the Magnolia tree all fenced in with a doggie carrier to sleep in. I don't know what I am going to do with that girl. All the other hens are so good without her. She's trouble in river city!
