WHAT DO I DO???? PLZ look...hatching now need immed. info

A hygrometer can read 80% and then when you open the incubator read 78% (yes, 2% difference) BUT, the dry air will do FAR more damage to the hatchlings than you realize.. The dry air will almost always cause the membrane to dry out and the chick will get stuck (ie shrink wrapped).. The humidity will naturally rise when chicks/ducklings hatch and no harm will come to the rest...

Every time that I hatch out a clutch off eggs the other chicks that already hatched out play soccer with the eggs that are pipping or not hatched out yet. Sometimes I think that they are party animals in the bater. I used to get so worried sitting next to the bater hearing the rumbling and crashing into each other. I really can't believe that my chicks don't hatch out with brain injuries or concussions. Usually everything works out ok.

Is it an LG? I pop one of the windows out, count to five, and put it back in when the humidity needs to be lowered quickly. As long as you don't go below 65% I don't think you'll need to worry about shrink-wrapping. When I did it, my humidity lowered by 12% fast, and then came back up by 6% in a few minutes and stayed there.
Added: (this is only to be done if humidity is far too high and the chicks are panting)

I keep my bator on the sink counter in the master bath; it's out of the normal stomping grounds of my small children and already in position if I have to open it during hatching.

The humidity will drop slowly.. Higher humidity will not harm the chicks in any way... Drowning does not happen while they are hatching and there is a rise in humidity.. Eggs don't absorb moisture that quickly.. Chicks drown when the humidity is too high throughout incubation and they try to pip into an aircell that should be much larger than it is...

As for the chick, it may be too late to worry about it... The yolk may have been in a bad position or it may have pipped through a vein... Hope for the best but expect the worst in that case.. I am sorry... Unfortunately, things don't always go as planned and there will be chicks that are lost... In this case, there was nothing you could have done about it.. It's nothing you did wrong...

it is the hovabator so the windows can't come out. I tried popping out the plugs, but, it only went to 80%....should I leave them off longer or is that not good? UGGGHHHH!!! I did not realize this would be so stressful. I definately think there are some that are just done...didn't make it out...did they drown? Their air sacs were good and they were moving on day 25....

81% and holding strong.

x2

Higher humidity won't hurt the hatching chicks, you only need to worry if the already hatched chicks seem to be gasping for air. And not all that pip are going to make it. I'm sorry, try not to feel too bad.

Thanks Greengoddess as I think that is where you get stuck....putting it all on yourself because you are the one hatching them. HOW CUTE is it that the 4 that have hatched respond to my voice! They saw me and were fine and then I started talking and they were so stimulated by my voice. TOO CUTE!

It truly is amazing, isn't it? Wait until you take them outside for the first time and they follow you everywhere! If you go too far from them, they will cry out until they see you and then run as fast as they can to catch up...
