what do i do with the real eggs until the hen goes broody????????

I have a few Broody Breeds and My O Shamo are the ones who want to sit. There is one hen that I CAN NOT Seem to get her out of the nest. She has be Broody for about 1-2 weeks now with nothing under her. I cant let her sit! I have Egg Orders to fill! I am debating on just letting her to see how good of a mother she is! I hope one of your hens goes broody but it might be awhile. I wouldn't save eggs for it. When you see her sitting then save the eggs!

You mean leave them in the nest box under a red light? For what purpose? If you're thinking that leaving them in the nest will encourage them to go broody, it is pretty unlikely. I'm not saying it can't happen but broodiness is caused by hormones and just seeing a nestful of eggs rarely triggers the hormone production. Is the red light for purposes of incubation? If so, I'd suggest you spend some time in the Incubating and Hatching Eggs section to understand a little more about incubation. To get good results requires a combination of heat and humidity that the broody hen provides in a natural setting, and an incubator provides when a broody isn't available. Sitting in a nestbox with a heat lamp on them is probably not going to provide the conditions necessary for fetal development.

Golf balls will be fine. They won't go bad and bust and stink to high heaven!

Keep the eggs in an egg carton inside the house up to 10 days. Don't put them in the fridge. If the hen's still not broody by day 10, discard the eggs and start over with fresh eggs.

what if you keep the eggs longer will they hatch
