What do I have here??

Ahhhh....that pic helps a lot! I've had both baby turkeys and pheasants and I find they look an awful lot alike when they first hatch. The size will tell you a lot though. I think my vote now has to go with turkey

hey Silkieluver I got a snoodless gobbler too but he is a 1 year old Bourbon Red.

I agree. The little one sure looks like a wild turkey poult to me. I think I even see a small bump (snood) right at the end of the dark line just above it's beak. I am betting you have a little wild turkey hen that was too weak to keep up with mama and siblings. Mama cannot stay behind with a weak one and endanger her entire brood. Only the strong survive in the wild.

Put her on some high protein turkey starter or gamebird starter of at least 27% protein and it should do just fine.
I doubt if that bird is even a week old. Baby wild turkeys grow wings fast. They roost in trees with mama at two weeks old.

I'm not sure what a 'snood' is but I will look it up, lol. The baby does have a bump just above the nostril area, just below the black line on its head. I thought it was a tick, lol, but its not.

It is on a gamebird feed and seems to be doing better so far. I have seen it eating and drinking finally. It is not picking on everyone so much anymore but goes after me when I put my hand in there. I have my fingers crossed that it does well.

As far as its wings are concerned, I think it may have 1 row in, maybe. When I got it, it had maybe 1/2 the first row in.

Thanks to everyone for you guesses and pics. You were all most helpful.

You really need to conact your local Department of Wildlife and Natural Resources to get a permit. Wild Turkeys are Federal Birds and there is a LARGE fine if your caught with one without a permit. The fines may vary from region to region, but in our area, S.C., it's nothing to play with.

I agree as well this is a turkey. It's not a guinea, or pheasent.

Just look at the big flap of skin hanging from the gobbler's face in my avatar. That is a snood. gobblers have big elongated ones hens have small ones.
