What do you do to keep the winter blues (blahs) at bay?????

When I first moved to Michigan from Georgia I used to get the winter blues a lot. Now I just find a lot of things to keep me busy. Quilting, reading, computer and such. I also take vitamin D.

I sit in front of my sun lamp.

I worked outside for 15 years, and now have switched to night manager. I KNOW the lack of outdoor sun has an impact on how I feel; and it just gets worse in the winter.

In regard to the light bulbs, do ALL CFL's have mercury in them? I wasn't aware of the disposal issues till I saw a note on a box of CFL bulbs about how to get rid of them. I'd like to put "natural light" bulbs in my kitchen, but don't know what a more responsible replacement might be. Suggestions anyone?

Exercise!! Winter walks! It's difficult to get started but once I do, I always seem to find lots of interesting things while out walking. I live out in a rural area, I see more deer in the winter, wild turkey, pheasant, I like to watch for tracks etc. I do my best to get out even in yucky weather!

I'm thinking of trying Yoga this winter. I have plantar fasciitis and crummy knees, so I'm worried about being any good at it, but I figure I'll do what I can.

I almost forgot! Sprouts! I use mason jars, cheesecloth, and the big rubber bands from asparagus to grow all kinds of sprouts in a sunny window. They are sooo good for you, and it feels good to have a little garden going inside too. Cheap too!

I've never had the winter blues!! We read and entertain more in the winter months than summer!

I had the winter blues last year. Seemed it was always raining and the yard was muddy and Portland ground to a halt during the Christmas Week Storm.

This is our first winter in snow country and I am really looking forward to it!

We have calcium pills, plenty of med, a first aid kit, lots of fire wood, and the Christmas decor ready to set up after Thanksgiving... I can't wait till winter!

OOOOHHH that's a good one. I need to plan out my gardens for next year so I can maximize space and also figure out how to build them up. Plus I want to start beekeeping so I need to read up that too.
I think I might buy a bouquet of flowers weekly . A nice vase of flowers is always a good pick me up.

Hoosiermomma (just love that name!!) Check out Hunter's Honey Farm, it is in Martinsville and they sell the start-up bees. The advantage to that is the bees are used to Indiana's weather(s LOL) Their website is www.huntershoneyfarm.com
Nice place to visit, has great honey & honey products. I am going to try the Vit D that Gritstar was mentioning and planning my flowers & garden when I get the winter blues. I am okay until the end of Jan/start of Feb. That's when I really get the winter blues!

I love all the seasons, winter included. I love crisp mornings, warm blankets, the smell of the fire burning

Of course, winters aren't too bad down here, so I don't have a lot to complain about.
