What Do You Do?

okay tonight as i made my way back to the coop and storage feeding area etc. i opened my container (i built it) theres a photo thats on my profile, anyways, in the bag of storage of wood chips,,,, i saw a mouse!! yuck!! gross!! creeps me out completley!!!
now i have my feed stored in a large rubber maid container, which i quickly moved out of that space, and moved over to the back porch, guess ill have to put it all in something else.
now since we dont have a barn,, or a farm (so to speak) i wondered what everyone else does with their hay,feed and wood chips? how do you store them?
this weekend, i am going out to home depot and maybe the farm supply store i buy my stuff from and get something,,, before the mouse becomes an issue!!
any feedback is most appricated!!!!


oh and also,, i thought i had done a great job building this contraption to house all the stuff for my chickens! guess i should be happy i didnt build the coop! ha

Metal trash cans will keep rodents out better than anything else I've found

Hay and bagged wood chips can be stored on pallets with tarps covering them

I have an old non-working chest style deep freezer (all of the "guts" are ripped out of it) in the barn that I keep my feed in. It stays nice and dry and no rodents can get in.

mmm i was thinking about the metal cans,, but home depot doesnt carry them anymore. atleast where my home depot is. i wonder if the plastics ones with a tight fitting lid will work? i have to do something... i know have to tear down my peice of (crap i guess excuse the language) that i built! ugh!!!

I have a old metal water trough that I put a plywood top on. It is hinged. I use it as a brooder in the spring and feed storage the rest of the year.

Because of the vast erray of bugs that we have here in Florida, many of which are big enough to pack you away, but I know, nobody has bigger mosquitoes than Minnesota, but ours are from Transylvania, we keep our food in the house. Hay is kept in my shop in sealed plastic garbage sacks to keep the snakes out.

we just bought two metal trash cans at the tractor supply store.. they were in the bird feed area....check your bird feed stores for them

don't waste your money on the rubber maid or plastic stuff - they'll go right thru it.If you don't live near a feed store, try your local hardware stores for metal trash cans

wow! so a rodent can eat thru a rubber maid container?
i was thinking on getting a garbage can.. with a secure style lid. ill have to take some photos of what i end up getting.

also,, should i throw out the wood chips that had the lil mouse in it?
i was thinking i should,, because of disease or something?
