What do you feed them?

Ok, I will mix cat food with their feed. We have cats so hopefully they don't mind

If cooked proper , maybe nothing, but if under cooked diseases from chickens. for sure not going to get disease from grain.....remember other birds carry diseases.

Brother, Sister, Aunt, Uncle, Mom and Dad that's what I always thought kin was.

I make the chicken, rice, sweet pea meal when we have left overs. They don't get this very often and they love it. Sweet peas are what's probably giving them the loose stool. Sweet peas are a natural" laxative" and stool softener. But they love them, so its given as a treat! It is kinda morbid if you over analyze it. And its a good protein treat. Yes, the chicken is cooked.
Just a thought, do any of y'all give them boiled or scrambled eggs as a high protein treat?

My chicken is always overly cooked too...because I also feed left over chicken, and my parrots and chicken love it too...so I just wanted to make sure it wasn't anything dangerous to them.

Iam not worried about kin stuff..hehehehe

I have left overs twice or so a week and feed all my animals it.

My dogs though are way to fat.lol

Thank u

If not stored properly or even straight from th grainery, grains can be contaminated. There's risks with everything. Even growing your own grains can be contaminated with ergot, blister beetles, wild bird droppings, field mice (yuck!) droppings.

For me, giving them a little chicken from time to time is an easy protein treat. They also LOVE mealworms.

This thread is definitely "food for thought", lol!! Im sure I can find another protein source other than chicken.

Does anyone give canned cat food or tuna to their birds?

What about garden greens? Do y'all give green scraps? Like in the wild, I try to give them a variety in their food. I feel like it keeps them somewhat happy and it also seems to help gentle them. All but one of my birds will eat from my hand and even picks around me when I sit in their pens. I sometimes think, from the way they interact with me, that I better be careful they may just jump into my lap!

I hope this post doesn't come across defensive. I am only throwing out info and am open to suggestions and constructive criticism in caring properly for my flock.
