Hey all!
Kind of off the subject but does anyone have some Pineapple mint or chcolate mint plants, or other different mints they could part with some starters off of? I was also looking for some scented geraniums. I have seeds to trade. Veggies herbs ect. Would be more than happy to pay shipping. Thanks
Hi Citychick -
I have chocolate mint coming up that I can share a little of... Also have Kentucky Colonel, and a few others....
As for my garden -
2 highbush blueberries
3 bush cherries (sweet and sour)
3 assorted apples
1 peach
1 mulberry tree
Raspberries
In the veggie patch I have:
assorted summer and winter squash
assorted hot peppers
assorted sweet peppers
okra
peas
radish and carrots
potatoes (5 varieties)
red and white onions
cucumbers
cherry tomatoes
red and green cabbage
broccoli
and too soon to plant:
3 types of corn
and a variety of snap beans and beans for drying
assorted melons
Last year all the fruit went to greedy thieves (deer, raccoon, possum, birds, etc) so this year I have netted some branches on each type of fruit. I don't mind *sharing* with the local fauna but I would like to get some fruit for me too!
Oooh! I love to garden and have had one often ever since I was a kid. I even had one for the 8 years we lived in an apartment and only had a balcony on which to grow things.
This year I want to do my garden differently. I want to seek out heirloom organic veggies to plant in my garden. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. My gardens are all prepped, but I haven't yet planted.
I'm in zone 10, Southern California, about 3 miles from the ocean.
I have two fruit trees: Orange and Lemon. I'd love more, but don't really have room, except on the north side of the house.
My backyard is tiny, measuring only 25' X 64' and only a portion of that is designated for the veggie garden.
Because the weather is so nice here, I usually run a winter and a summer garden. I just pulled up the last of the winter garden which was lots and lots of lettuce, spinach, and mesclun mix.
For the summer I always plant:
Tomatoes - 3 plants
Corn
Green Beans
Zucchini
Beets
Radish
Green Onion
Hot Peppers (jalapeno or serrano)
Green, Red, or Yellow Peppers
Cilantro
Then I add in something that I really want to try that year. In the past it has been cucumbers, peas, turnips, carrots (I never have much luck with them either), eggplant, garlic, leeks, and a few others that are slipping my mind at the moment.
This will be my first summer garden with an abundance of chicken poo mulch. My winter garden was amazing this year, better than ever before!! Thanks Penny, Ruthie, and Elsie!!

Me too! The winter lettuce was amazing! I've never grown lettuce that produced that well. Not only did the lettuce do fabulously, but the chickens managed to keep the bug population down so that I lost very little to munching critters.
Here's a picture taken in February:
We ate lettuce up through last week before it finally started bolting. It was so good!
