Oooh! I love to garden and have had one often ever since I was a kid. I even had one for the 8 years we lived in an apartment and only had a balcony on which to grow things.
This year I want to do my garden differently. I want to seek out heirloom organic veggies to plant in my garden. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. My gardens are all prepped, but I haven't yet planted.
I'm in zone 10, Southern California, about 3 miles from the ocean.
I have two fruit trees: Orange and Lemon. I'd love more, but don't really have room, except on the north side of the house.
My backyard is tiny, measuring only 25' X 64' and only a portion of that is designated for the veggie garden.
Because the weather is so nice here, I usually run a winter and a summer garden. I just pulled up the last of the winter garden which was lots and lots of lettuce, spinach, and mesclun mix.
For the summer I always plant:
Tomatoes - 3 plants
Corn
Green Beans
Zucchini
Beets
Radish
Green Onion
Hot Peppers (jalapeno or serrano)
Green, Red, or Yellow Peppers
Cilantro
Then I add in something that I really want to try that year. In the past it has been cucumbers, peas, turnips, carrots (I never have much luck with them either), eggplant, garlic, leeks, and a few others that are slipping my mind at the moment.
This will be my first summer garden with an abundance of chicken poo mulch. My winter garden was amazing this year, better than ever before!! Thanks Penny, Ruthie, and Elsie!!
