Wow- I just went to get my chickens some feed (at the farmer's co-op) and the price has went up! Laying pellets are $14.99 for a 50# bag, Scratch grains are $11.49 a bag and a 50# bag of Chick Starter is $15.00!

I started selling my eggs to pay for feed. We were giving them away, but feeding them costs more now. Thank goodness they free range also! I'm feeding 29 chickens and 38 3-4 week old chicks.

I just paid $13.59 each for 2 -50# bags of Dumor Layer Crumble & $12.49 for a 50# bag of Purina Scratch Grain at TSC. The price of feed is really starting to kill me, especially over the winter when the girls weren't laying very well. I sell eggs too to co-workers but I still don't sell enough to break even or make a profit, every little bit helps though. I really need to thin my flock but I am so attached to them all I wouldn't know where to start.

Now I have a hawk and fox problem so I'm going to have to limit their amount of time free ranging.

I pay $14 dollars a bag for soy free feed. One of the families from the farmers market buys in massive bulk and I buy from her after we were talking about chicken feed and she told me what she used, I asked her if I could start purchasing feed from her.
My chickens love it! Now, we are hoping to get soy and corn free very soon. Trying to cut down on GMO's as much as possible, but realize it is a very difficult task.

I pay 9.75 a 50 pound bag of Buckeye18% layer breeder
I pay 14.00 a 50 pound bag of 14 percent protein pigeon feed that I use as a "Scratch Grain" (a lot better grains than "normal" chicken scratch grain and higher in protein also)

My area of northern California seems really expensive. When the Flock Raiser isn't on sale (it is all March), it's usually $17.99, and the Scratch is $12.99 or something. I'm rather unhappy about it, the prices just raised last month or so. I go through a bag a week or so.

I pay $20 for 50 lbs. of organic layer pellets. I only have four chickens and they free range in the backyard and get table scraps so they don't eat a lot of pellets.
