What do you pay for high speed internet???????

We get our package from Comcast and pay way too much for it, my bill right now is $158.00 a month for cable, internet and phone. The package is $129, but then add on the cable boxes and remotes and all the stupid taxes they tack on it takes it up, up, up!

Plus the packages include all these channels I don't want, I could care less about HBO, Cinemax, etc. I resent having to get them, all they do is drive the rate up. Verizon has strung FIOS lines outside my house, as soon as they get the cable franchise straightened out they'll offer the bundles, too (they have them now but I don't want to deal with DirectTV) I'll use the Verizon offer to beat Comcast over the head if they want to keep my account!

We have AT&T DSL, home phone service and cell phones. We were able to get a deal because we have all of those services with them. We do have their web package on our cell phones, so I think we pay a little more than $100 a month, but thats for two cell phones, a landline, and DSL.

We are at like $120. a month for Direct TV,verizon phone, DSL verizon and AOL.We are out in the sticks and can't get cable.I'm very happy with verizon.DSL alone is like $21.95.It's nice to have them all together. Will

We have MESA network. It is a radio signal that is unaffected by overcast like sattelite. Installation was 150 and it runs 39.95 a month for unlimited computers. We've been very happy with it for 5 years now. We live in a rural area with no cable and our phone lines are not able to carry high speed. We looked into sattelite but the install is ridiculous. Ours does require a password for anyone not on our router.

Luckily, I work for the local phone company here and I managed to bridge a pair to get DSL at my house. I am the only one of the street with DSL and thank goodness, otherwise I wouldn't be able to see all of the great pictures and videos on here quickly

Centurytel just bought us out so things are going to change and, hopefully, that means that more customers will be able to get naked DSL.

Comcast is a joke here and I have hear numerous horror stories about large installation fees/equipment costs from satellite companies offering speeds less than 1MB for over 60$ a month. I also find that the deals and prices are regional.

We also can't get DSL here, 2 miles up the road one way and 5 miles the other way has it, but not here.
We looked at Hughesnet, but when I upgraded my Dish Network, the installer sais I should be able to get High Speed through them, even though they had previously told me otherwise.
I had thought about an air card , but my dad has one and when he comes up with his laptop he has to sit at the end of my dining table to get a signal.

So, I need to call Dish and see if we can get that.

Sara,
You may want to see if you can get an air card through your cell phone provider. If you have cell service at your house an air card should work.

We are also rural, live in a dead zone and nothing works at our location, not even our cells. When they came out with satellite I thought YAHOO finally fast internet for us. Two year contract later I finally got rid of it. The wind blew...it went out. The sun shined...it went out. It rained....it went out. It was out more than in and while I was under contract they did not want to send a repairman out cuz they knew I was keeping it regardless because I didn't want to pay their humonguous cancellation fee.

About a month before the contract was up, I called and complained and they were fast to send someone out and waived the fee for the repairmain. He adjusted it and it did work better but I still cancelled it.

I have Embarq dsl, the slowest available because that's all there is but it's 10x faster then satallite or dial up so now i'm happy.

Edit to add: I had upgraded my satellite to the "gold" package thinking it would be faster and it wasn't. Satallite also has a limit of upload and download, which we met their limit 1 month and the slowed our speed down. That's another thing that got me, cuz I wasn't aware of that when signing up.

I pay 19.95 for what I have now and was paying 69.99 for satellite

I tried to get internet through dish here, they told me that the satellites were full, and that I would have to wait till Dish launched more satellites

we have verison dsl basic i think it is. we pay 1st mth free, next 5 mths 9.99 and 19.99 a mth there after. 1 year commitment. i have wireless through them on a family shared with 3 phones total it's about 150 divided by 3 of us and then i have basic landline through them it's about 15. don't have cable it's way to costly here and can't get satalight through the hills and trees.

edit- it cost us $20 to have the equipment shipped in, at the end of the contract i believe we own the equipment but i'd have to check. also my dsl is unlimited i leave my comp on 24/7 it is never higher cost or cut off time. some say they r unlimited but the hours after so many they r shut off. i only reccomend verison on cell phones, at &t and cellone has killed my Dh credit for over chargeing on carrier fees. i've never had a prob with verison over chargeing anything, they stick to their contracts and i've never had interupted service unless out of signal witch isn't very often. i always had that prob with the other 2 companies.
